Saturday

The weekend is finally here again! This has seemed like the longest month ever at work. I can't believe we haven't even made it to September yet--the year is practically still just starting. If time flies when you're having fun, I guess the opposite is true, too.

I'm keeping my head down at work. I've seen a few friendly faces from the district office who've visited the school for one reason or another, and that's been a comfort. I'm well-liked by a handful of higher-ups in the district, so hopefully they can vouch for me if I ever need it. I checked into the transfer process, and that's a process that the district doesn't allow to begin until January at the very earliest. So unless something dramatic happens (and I hope it doesn't) I'm stuck for this year. Next spring can't get here soon enough!

We're still waiting on the results of Gregg's biopsy.  He was at the hospital cleaning aquariums yesterday and got someone to call and check, and they were told that "Dr. Wofford has a pile of test results sitting on his desk that haven't been read yet. He won't be back at work until Monday so it will be a few more days". Monday will be three weeks! That's just ridiculous. I still think everything is going to be fine, but I know it's a nagging worry at the back of Gregg's mind and he won't rest easy until he gets some answers.

I'm tearing down the summer garden tomorrow. I think the tomatoes are pretty much played out (so are the peppers) in the raised bed, and it's time. I also want to start planting fall vegetables next week. I'm thinking of trying more lettuce, spinach, turnips, mustard greens, and maybe a very early (quick) variety of carrots. We have a long growing season and our average first frost isn't until early November so there should be time for most of it. The zinnias in the bed in front of the porch are still going strong, and the butterflies and hummingbirds are still having a very good summer.

Since yesterday was National Dog Day, I tried to get a pretty picture of Poppy standing by the zinnias. She was not impressed with my efforts. None of my dogs ever have been!

There's little chance of getting a picture of George by the flowers. Unless we're hooking him up for one of his twice daily walks around the neighborhood, he prefers to be either inside with the a/c or on the porch under the ceiling fan. George is definitely an inside dog!

    1. The hummingbirds love the zinnias too but it's impossible to get a good photo of them!

  3. We need to get our fall garden going too. I'm still sort of waiting for the heat to lessen.
Could the district be keeping an extra close eye on the new principal after her bizarre blow-up? Curious.
Doctors need to realize that people awaiting test results cannot rest until they find out what's what. That is a special form of cruelty- making people wait.
Your doggos are so sweet and loved-looking.

    1. I hope they're keeping a close eye on her, but of course I don't know for sure. She makes someone cry every day, I'm just thankful when it's not me. :( She's going to be hell on wheels until someone really reins her in, I'm afraid.

  4. I hope those test results come sooner rather than later! And I hope all is well. I’m a wee bit surprised that you are going to remain at your job for the time being. I sincerely hope you have no more outbursts and it stays calm and cool! Love your dog pictures! - Jenn

    1. I don't really have a choice but to remain at my job. Not if I want to continue to work for the district, which I do--I'm building a pension which I'm counting on to be comfortable after I retire.

  5. My dogs are addicted to the Central Air. They're outside just long enough to do their business and then they're back inside.

    1. That's George for sure. He hates the heat, and rainy weather, and getting his feet wet AFTER rainy weather, and.... LOL!

  6. I predict this new principal won't last long in your school. In my experience, people with her temperament will light fires wherever she goes. You'll be quickly forgotten as she busies herself setting new fires with different staff members around the school. Pretty soon her individual fires will become a forest fire she can't handle and she'll be ousted.
I hope Gregg gets his biopsy results soon. The waiting must be awful.

    1. That's already going on so far--she's so busy that she barely has time to notice me (thank goodness). And I'm always working hard and doing my best to mind my own business, which doesn't give her much cause to get on my case. I keep a bland smile on my face and always act cheerful and calm and polite when I'm forced to interact with her. Hopefully that will get me through the next few months, then I can really start to plan my escape!

    1. I won't allow myself to be fired without making things really uncomfortable for her. I don't do anything that warrants firing, and if she does so without reasonable cause that could mean legal trouble for the school. I've worked too hard these last five years to be ousted over nonsense! I'd put up a fight.

  9. I agree with Melinda. Those 'crash and burn' types usually aren't around long. They set enough fires they finally get the royal burn themselves. Doggies are so cute.

    1. Thanks PJ! This is my third principal and it's only the start of my sixth year. They seem to come and go regularly. She's making a lot of enemies already whether she realizes it or not. Sooner or later she'll pay for it.

  11. That Poppy face is priceless. I wonder if the smell is offensive. Here's another vote for Greg to receive test results soon. This week, for instance. Monday, to be specific.

  12. Three weeks and more waiting for test results?! That realls is long!
Your garden keeps giving you so much joy, as are your dogs. And you need it to balance what‘s going on at work. Your approach is very sensible.

  13. I think it is cruel to make someone wait 3 weeks for lab results.

  14. I hope Gregg gets his test results soon and that they put his mind at ease.

  15. Dogs DO get accustomed to their comforts, don't they? Olga is always less than impressed with my attempts to take her picture. She doesn't know what's happening and usually begins barking at me, which ruins the photo.

It's ridiculous for that doctor to allow test results to languish on his desk. He needs someone filling in for him, or a Physician's Assistant who can deliver the results.

  16. I hope the news is good but am outraged that you're having to wait (and fret). I remember those days very, very well. A year seems like a long time to put up with crazy admin behavior. :(

  17. Some dogs see the camera and pose. Others... are like yours. So frustrating about waiting on those results.

  18. Sorry you have to wait to transfer in your district. Hopefully, you will be left alone to quietly do your job. Best of luck to Gregg with good results soon.

  19. The idea of a planting of autumn vegetables just never raises its head in northern England. Ours is a cooler climate and we can get frosts from the end of September.

  20. Waiting on dr. results can drive you crazy. But, three weeks ... come on. That's ridiculous.

  21. I too love the pooch. September is getting the garden ready of its rest.
