My three kids

When I returned to work on Monday, Gregg texted me around lunchtime to tell me that the dogs were miserable, especially Poppy. They kept going to the back door and windows to look longingly at the driveway, checking to see if I was back yet. Lots of big sighs and sad eyes. Poppy finally draped herself over the back of a small sofa that has a driveway view, and laid there all afternoon, waiting. I asked if Marco had missed me, too. Gregg said, "I'm not sure, but he's been a little asshole all day, so I imagine he's sick of me if nothing else." Ha. When I finally got home, there was absolute doggy joy. (Jennifer joy, too!)

Yesterday when I got home from work, the dogs got so excited and wound up that they started pulling toys out of the toy basket and play-fighting with each other in front of me. Marco watched from his perch, obviously wanting to join in the fun. Lately he's been getting braver about approaching them, and George and Poppy have been showing remarkable tolerance with it. It's a good thing, too, because when there was a pause in the doggy roughhousing, Marco decided it was time to move right up into both their faces. He's awfully bold, and the dogs are awfully good!

All the kids in one shot!

My gentle Georgie. When he was a wild and crazy
youngster, I wouldn't have believed this was possible.

Little sister Poppy.

Marco!! Pretty clear that he is the biggest dog in the house. Poor poochies miss their mom- that is so sad.

I love it when different animals interact. If we have to leave Billy at home alone, he get's so excited when we return. I think he misses us too!

That is too cute and so funny! In the one picture it's as if Marco is saying to Poppy. Now just take it easy there doggy, not to close.

Those are lovely photos! And it is so sweet that your "kids" miss you when you're not around. Of course they will soon settle back into the familiar routine with you regularly being out of the house on weekdays.
When I went to Librarian School for four weeks at a time, my cat insisted on my Mum opening the door to my room for her, so that she could see for herself that I really wasn't there.

It is wonderful to see the three kids interacting. I love those close-up and personals! And Gregg’s description of Marco...

Wonderful! Dogs are so special. They ask so little and give so very much.

I guess the three kids have all accepted each other as being in the same pack. It is very sweet to see them together, united in their love of you and Gregg.

You gotta wonder what the dogs are thinking: "What is this creature? Is it food?" (Apparently they've already reached the conclusion that it's not.)

And who knows what Marco is thinking, though I get the sense that he believes he rules the roost.

I love these photos! LOVE them! Murray whines whenever I leave, and Michael tells me he puts his paws up on the kitchen window looking for me to return.

They've had to put up with Marco their entire lives. They've used to ignore him and would sometimes just walk away when he was loud, but that's changed just recently. Not sure why!

Murray!! I'm so glad he's coming along and fitting in to his new home!

Jennifer said...

I think so too!

That picture is my favorite!

They really did. They hate it when I go back to work after a long break.

Marco is definitely the big dog! And the oldest. He's 18, George is 13, and Poppy is 4.

My babies!

I missed them a lot when I returned to work.

Jennifer said...

Of course he misses you!

Jennifer said...

Exactly! The dogs know they're not supposed to hurt Marco. Thank goodness, because he's too bold for his own good.

Jennifer said...

Do you think you may have another cat one day, Meike?

Gregg's description was 100% accurate! lol Marco thinks he rules this roost.

I can't imagine life without dogs.

I grabbed my phone to take photos to capture the moment!

It's true. Both dogs have lived with Marco their entire lives. They don't know any other way.

I rarely am out for more than a couple of hours but when I do return my Peggy is sitting just inside the front door. If I am gone too long my neighbour says that she starts to howl. She misses her mommy just like your three do. Gigi

Possibly... I sometimes think that when I retire (and when O.K. and I live together, so that neither of us has to spend every other weekend away from home) that I want a dog and a cat. Or two cats.

Just one chomp and it's curtains for Marco. I guess his beak and claws would cause some damage when plunging down the hatch.
