Not my planned post

It's beginning to look like our winter storm isn't going to be as bad here as we initially feared. We're still expected to get up to a quarter inch of ice, but the worst of the storm will happen west and north of here. We're really well prepared no matter what. I even went out and bought a power bank for our phones in case we lose power. It's supposed to give us both two full charges, so that's peace of mind.

Here's what's NOT peace of mind: I just read the breaking news of another person shot and killed by ICE in Minnesota. I saw a video of the shooting and it looked like seven officers were beating a man (already on the ground) and one of them backed up and shot him dead on the spot.

I feel physically ill.

I wrote the first paragraph, paused and looked at the news, and saw what happened. I'd intended to write more about our storm prep, but I no longer have the heart for it. I actually feel like I might throw up.

This madness must stop. We simply can't go on like this.

  1. I'm sick to my stomach. I can't believe this. Military beating a man until he is flat on the ground, pulling out guns and shooting him ten times. I will never get this video out of my head. Who can stop it? I am begging.

  2. I’m glad you’re not getting hit as hard as expected. All that ice will be bad enough. Yes, I read that news from Minnesota and my day came to a grinding halt.

  5. I think it's sad and pathetic that we have a group called ICE killing our own citizens and making communities live in fear. I have never thought I'd see this in our country. They are nothing but bigoted losers, with an ax to grind because they are such sorrow creatures. And if they aren't doing anything wrong or fearful for what they're doing, then WHY are they hiding behind masks??? Cowards!

Meanwhile, we are awaiting the snowstorm to arrive in the witching hours here right into Monday.

    1. They are goons and thugs who delight in violence. Despicable.

  6. It's heartbreaking, and just insane. Nothing has yet to be done re: Renee Good's killer, though, so who knows what will happen now. I listened to this video last night from some neighborhood in Minneapolis. It was people screaming "they're coming"; "stay inside," etc. It was horrifying. We are living in hell.

    1. Living in hell sums it up nicely. I never thought I'd have to fear my own government.

  7. Writing from Minneapolis, I can say NO ONE here is giving up on our country or democracy—the mood is horrified, angry, grieving… but fierce!
    Resistance is everywhere!
    Don’t give up on us!
Don’t give up on the country!
Everyone is heading to their neighborhood parks tonight for a candlelight vigil.
Be with us in spirit, please.

    1. Fresca, thank you for your comment. We are NOT giving up on Minneapolis! You all are fighting the good fight and showing the world what America is really made of. I am with you every single day in spirit and so is the rest of America. We love you. Stay strong and take care and know that we have your back.

Key quote for me: "For Paranhi, the question is not about retribution, but how a society evermoves beyond a cycle of violence. History has shown that these kinds of governments can't survive. One day it will end. One day it will stop. It will collapse."

Jennifer, this man is an Iranian filmmaker who has been imprisoned for his work, threatened for his work...and yet he keeps on. As we must as well. Sure it is wrong. Sure it is awful. But our only option is to keep going. Press on knowing full well this will collapse.

    1. You're right. We cannot give up. This evil can't sustain itself forever, not when real Americans stand up to it and stand with each other.

  9. It is sickening and very, very scary. People must have felt similarly in Nazi-Germany when the SS (Sturmstaffel) were out in their brown and black uniforms, only that they did not wear masks - they were proudly showing their faces, knowing they had the power and full backing of the government for whatever they did.

    1. ICE agents are given free rein to do whatever they please at the moment, but I can only hope and pray that they face justice one day, just as the Nazis eventually did.

  10. Jennifer, the whole thing makes me so sick and angry. Like some of the comments that have already been made, I don't think this regime can last. I truly have to believe that good always triumphs over evil. But I just want to live long enough for all of these people to get their comeuppance.

    1. I, too, hope to live to see all these people get brought to justice for the crimes they've committed and what they've put this country through.

  11. We didn't get much out of the first part of the storm, either, so we'll see how day two of rain and perhaps ice goes.

As for the ICEstapo, I am sickened by what they are done and sickened by those in charge lying about the person who was murdered.

    1. The people I know who defend these horrors and anything this evil regime does sicken me. I know people in this community that would have made perfect Nazis. It's been a real disappointment in my life, seeing the pure evil that so many people hold in their hearts. I'll NEVER forget those who support this regime.
