More roses!

On Friday my two new bare root David Austin roses arrived! I didn't waste time; yesterday morning I did the recommended root ball immersion in buckets of water, and in the late afternoon I planted them on either side of the Eustacia Vye. That particular bed is finished now (aside from some possible future companion plants for the roses). It's on the south side of the screened porch, and the three rose varieties are Benjamin Britten, Eustacia Vye, and Desdemona. Considering that last year my Eustacia bloomed less than two months from planting out, and then bloomed again in the summer, I have high hopes of seeing all three flowers this year.

Hope they will fare well. We're at least 2 months from planting anything here yet.

Your gardens will be amazing this year. You’ve planted so many beautiful things in your years there.

You're planting roses and we're still getting snow. Good luck with the roses! I love them.

We are still getting snow, too. But I know my daughter and son-in-law are dreaming about spring and planting - the catalogs are out!

Hi Jennifer- First time commenting! I'm north of you (richmond, va.) and we're getting sleet/snow etc now - so no planting yet. But I have ordered some David Austin roses and i wonder if they come with the instructions/suggestions for planting?- (you mentioned soaking them). Yours are beautiful and were so successful- You seem to have a green thumb

Hello! It's ok to plant bare root roses in late winter as long as the ground isn't frozen, and our ground never really freezes anyway. They're dormant when they arrive. Yes, they have care guides in the shipping boxes (that's how I knew to soak them).

Thanks for stopping by! Which DA roses did you order? I'd love to hear about them!

They're dormant so the fact that we still have cold weather in store shouldn't matter. I'd be shocked if we got any more snow this year!

I hope so! I need to buy some vases!

Are you due for a blizzard this week? Stay warm!

I have a rack full of 2 inch tomato seedlings under grow lights right now, too!

Oh, those catalogs are dangerous! Get too carried away and your back won't thank you in late spring! Haha.
