Wee hour blues

It was yet another late, late night at work. I've got that too-wired-to-sleep thing going on even though it's 2am and I should really go to bed. I finally (finally!) have a day off tomorrow and I'd rather not sleep until noon and waste half of it.

Which is why I came home and poured two fingers of whiskey into a glass and drank it neat. I'm still not sleepy, though. Gregg and the dogs are asleep, as they've been for the past three nights when I finally made it home. It's lonely hanging around the house by myself  in the wee hours.

  1. I love Irish whiskey and have bottles of it in our cabinet but I very rarely drink it simply because it disturbs my sleep. I don't know why. It just does. Maybe a mug of milky hot chocolate would have been a better option Jennifer.

    1. I'm not much of a hot chocolate drinker and I rarely drink milk. But the whiskey was a bad idea--I woke up with a headache.

  2. I have the same issue, if I go out and stay out late I simply cannot go right to bed when I return. It is maddening as I think of all the things I have to do the next day, tired or not. I try to lay on the couch and read, and that sometimes helps. I hope you have a great day off, despite being a bit tired.

  3. Nothing worse than not being able to sleep when the rest of the house are deep in slumber. Just one whisky probably wouldn't do much to make you sleepy, Jennifer. Maybe you'd need to drink half a bottle to get the desired effect, but my goodness - you'd have such a headache in the morning !
Camomile tea or Green tea are said to be very relaxing, or a hot chocolate drink.

  5. I despise when you want to go to sleep and can't. I messed up my meds yesterday so I was up most the night then ended up napping most of today. What a huge mess.
Hope you had a nice day anyways. One day off is never enough you need 2 together.

    Feel better.
    cheers, parsnip

  6. I've had a bottle of well aged single malt Scotch Whisky sitting unopened for years, so this winter I decided that enough was enough. I had a small glass every night for a few weeks, then when all was finished I said 'I really must buy another bottle of that'.... to which my wife replied 'Oh no you don't'. I shall ignore her (of course), and replace it asap.

  7. Hope you were still able to enjoy your day off once the headache was gone!
I find that reading gets me to sleep easiest, but sometimes there is a lot on my mind and I can not wind down as much as I'd like to; not worrying, just a lot going on.
