I let the marigolds run wild after the summer garden was finished, and the bees spent all day yesterday taking advantage of the late season blooms. Temperatures tonight are expected to drop below freezing, so it was probably their last chance to prepare for winter.
Yesterday was also my dear husband's birthday! We had a quiet day at home (the weather was glorious, like Indian Summer) with the dogs and Marco. I made all of Gregg's favorite foods, including banana pudding for dessert. I have plans to make him a pineapple upside-down cake too, but he requested that I wait until the banana pudding is finished.

Slightly belated birthday greetings to Gregg and applause for the bees. Happy Monday Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mr. Pudding!
DeleteA Happy Birthday to Gregg! Another fellow Scorpio I see. The marigold with the bees are beautiful! My garden is all but done with exception to a few things still going. I never tried it, but a floral friend of mine said if you snip the heads of the marigolds and bury them like bulbs, they will give new plants next year.
ReplyDeleteScorpios are my favorite! Dried marigold heads can be buried or taken inside and replanted in the spring...either way, they'll come back.
DeleteHappy Happy Birthday Greg! Enjoy the puddin'.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the beautiful photos; glorious color.
My new phone takes nice pictures!
DeleteThe marigolds are lovely and one of my favorites. And yes, an arctic blast is on the way.
ReplyDeleteWe actually got temps down to 28 degrees, wind chills around 20...and for a few minutes on Monday night it SNOWED!!! We've never seen snow in November around here. Granted, it was only a few flurries that only lasted a few minutes, but still.
DeleteHappy bees on those gorgeous flowers, and happy birthday to your husband.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteFabulous pictures! Banana pudding sounds so good, but so does pineapple upside down cake. Gregg is a lucky man to be loved so deeply.
ReplyDeleteThe banana pudding is almost gone, so I'll be making the pineapple cake soon. Gregg is lucky he can eat whatever he wants, in any amount he wants, and never gain weight.
DeleteHello Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteThis does sound like a beautiful Sunday, bees are buzzing, marigolds are flowering and it is your husband's birthday. One can be led to believe that all is right with the world on days such as these when life's simple pleasures are appreciated and enjoyed.
It was a day filled with simple pleasures! Thank you!
DeleteHappy Birthday to Gregg!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteHappy Birthday to Gregg! May he have a wonderful year of good health and fun adventures!
ReplyDeleteMay it be so! :)
DeleteHappy Birthday to your husband! I think one dessert at the same time is a good decision.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's probably the wiser course.
DeleteGorgeous photos! Thanks for leaving the flowers for the bees when you cleared the garden earlier.
ReplyDeleteA belated happy birthday to Gregg!
The marigolds started growing like crazy without the other plants to compete with them. I love bees and always try to think of them when gardening. They're so important!
DeleteHappy belated birthday t Gregg. It sounds like a perfect celebration.
ReplyDeleteHe's too much of an introvert to want to actually go out to celebrate. Which is fine, of course. :)
DeleteHappy birthday to Gregg. My friend and I declare that we celebrate birthday Month, so happy November to your birthday guy. Banana pudding sounds delicious and I like the plump little hardworking bees.
ReplyDeleteI like to have a Birthday Month too, so we have some more celebrating to do!
DeleteMy best wishes to Gregg! Sunday was a lovely day here too. You HAVE to love Bumble Bees!
ReplyDeleteBumble Bees are definitely a favorite of mine!
DeleteBelated Happy Birthday to Gregg! Like the bees, he had a feast to enjoy - only that he has the benefit of your great cooking all year round.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your nice words and good wishes!
DeleteHappy Birthday, Gregg. Your flowers were so pretty. My plants and flowers didn't do well this year, but it was probably my fault. I didn't nurture them the way I should.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Marigolds don't take much nurturing, which is one of the reasons I love them. Thank you!
DeleteBanana pudding -- possibly my favorite dessert ever. Those poor bees must have had a shock, going from Indian Summer to freezing!
ReplyDeleteYou're a Southern boy just like Gregg, no wonder you love banana pudding! I worry about the bees and other little animals when the weather changes so rapidly, but I guess they're equipped to deal with it. I hope so.
DeleteWho doesn't love banana pudding!! Happy Birthday, Gregg!
