Two March hares

Today is a special day: my dear blogger friend Meike's birthday! Meike blogs from Germany and I love reading about her life and adventures there. A fun coincidence is that we're almost birthday twins; tomorrow I'll be 51 years old. Together, we're two mad March hares! *

I don't have any big plans for my birthday. Yesterday Marla and Martina came over for a few hours, and we had some simple appetizers and cake. I'd recently purchased a new charcuterie board and was eager to use it. The cake came from a local bakery (chocolate fudge layer cake).

Today, I want to pot up some more tomato seedlings, and maybe plant rattlesnake beans in the garden. The weather is warm and gorgeous and it's going to be a good day to be outside. All the early spring blossoms are popping at the moment: dogwood and redbud trees, wisteria, Carolina jessamine, azaleas. I even saw a few very early purple and white irises starting to bloom in a neighbor's yard!  I've always been glad I was born this time of year. Spring is my favorite season.

As for my actual birthday tomorrow, it's just going to be an ordinary workday. A simple and pleasant weekend with friends and my husband is more than enough for me.

* Happy birthday Meike! I hope you're having a wonderful day!

  6. Happy birthday, Mieke, and happy birthday to you a day early! I love the charcuterie board. But my first thought was, if I bought a charcuterie board I would expect it to come completely loaded. Otherwise, it’s just a board!

    1. I tried to put some lighter spring goodies on the board--strawberries and snow peas and carrots and hummus...it was really good!

  14. Thank you, Jennifer, and once again Happy Birthday to you!
That board looks perfect to me - if you lived nearer to me, I'd ask you to make one for every party I throw :-)
My birthday was very small and simple this year, as opposed to last year. This year, my mind is dominated by our upcoming wedding - not that I need to plan or organise much, but it's such a big, important step, not like a birthday that comes round every year.

    1. You're right about that! I can't believe the number of folks at work complaining about the cold snap we've had this week. I'll take nights in the high 30s and days in the low 60s ANYTIME over what summer throws at us!

      Thanks for the birthday wishes!

    1. 51 is the new 31! I like that! Ha. It's funny, but I was 31 when I married my husband and we're approaching our 20th wedding anniversary this June, and I still FEEL much closer to 31 than 51. I still can't get over being 50 and that's already a year in the past! Aging is so strange.
