It's somewhat dependent on weather so I'm not hauling it to the attic when it's bitter cold out. This year they were down Wednesday, and will go to the attic this afternoon. If my hip cooperates. Outside decorations are even more weather dependent, those are not my doings so I have no clue when the last of lights will be taken down.

We haven't gone out on NY eve for decades. I would miss the sparkle on New Years Eve! I used to leave them up until Epiphany, but the last few years have had too many household projects going on. Of course most of my neighbors put them up before Thanksgiving (some before Halloween!) and most have them down shortly after noon on Christmas Day. I know because I observe the discarded trees all rolling around at the ends of driveways on my Christmas afternoon walks. I'm sad for them that they can't enjoy Christmas in its own time but rush the season so they're sick of it by the middle of December. On New Years Eve I always have a special snack and wee toast to auld lang syne on my own, and on New Years Day I clean up and organize with hope and optimism for the new year.Lynn Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04326695931684876331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3830720322970025712.post-32704229249306883332021-12-31T10:04:55.909-05:002021-12-31T10:04:55.909-05:00I'm leaving the lights on the avocado tree for...I'm leaving the lights on the avocado tree for the next week or so. I love cards and have plenty of them around but little else. This year I have plenty of bulbs - mainly hyacinths - and they have suddenly burst into bloom over Christmas so that the house smells delightful.mmmI always have a Poinsettia too. As to New Year's Eve - the farmer and I always threw a huge party for all our friends - over forty most years and I loved the preparation. O.K. and I have next week off and are going to spend it at his place, and we have not yet decided on what day we drive back up to my place; the 6th, or 7th.
My catsitting duty officially ends today, but I know that my successor will not start until Jan. 2, and so I am probably going to squeeze in a very quick visit with Hobbes tomorrow, before we set off to wish first my parents a Happy New Year and then drive down to the village, where O.K.'s parents are waiting.
Tonight, there will just be the three of us - my sister, O.K. and I - at my sister's place. We will eat Raclette and have plenty of booze!! No fireworks have been sold here this year (2nd time in a row), but there will always be someone who has somehow managed to get hold of some, so we'll probably be out on my sister's balcony in time for clinking glasses at midnight and watching whatever will be sparkle in the sky.Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3830720322970025712.post-33665965313569232542021-12-31T03:35:10.265-05:002021-12-31T03:35:10.265-05:00Today I shall meet a friend for a morning dog walk...Today I shall meet a friend for a morning dog walk, and then we are meeting up with an old school pal of P's for a lunchtime drink...I hope that we can be in the pub garden, as it is very warm for this time of year.
