Seeing my first ballet last night, Cinderella, was a real treat. The music, the dancers, and the costumes were just beautiful. And if I'm being very honest, the view from Prince Charming's backside while he danced was an absolute delight! Martina and I, as well as the two women from her office that were there with us, all agreed on this last point.
Here are a few (not so great) photos I snapped towards the end.
And here's a playbill I picked up as a souvenir....
Afterwards Martina and I stopped for coffee and a light meal before heading home. What a spectrum of culture in one night....from the ballet to the Waffle House! :)
Colourful costumes and a spectacular set! And then WAFFLES? The perfect evening!
ReplyDeleteYES! A Waffle House breakfast complete with a cup of coffee was the perfect ending to the night. We had so much fun!
DeleteI would have loved a backside view!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good night, the production looks stunning!
You really would have, Bob! It's rare to see the male anatomy shown to such advantage in real life. The production was nicer than I expected for Florence.
DeleteI love the ballet especially since my older daughter did high level ballet. My late husband on the other hand? He could barely watch the guys in the white (revealing) tights. LOL
ReplyDeleteYes, Prince Charming wore the white tights pictured on the playbill, and I'm sure we weren't the only four women there enjoying the view! What gorgeous male bodies.
DeleteWhat a perfect evening! Two completely different types of culture, both valid and enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteI love your photos from the ballet.
Two different but valid and enjoyable types of culture, what a great way to describe it! Walking into a Waffle (or Huddle) House late at night, with the smell of the food cooking and the chilliness of the air (they're always cold, aren't they) brings back all sorts of memories! And the food is cheap but pretty damn good!
DeleteVery nice. Those costumes must weight a ton, not the kind thing I'd want to wear when dancing.
ReplyDeleteThe dancers wearing the heavier costumes (like the wicked stepmother in red) didn't do as much dancing as the leads.
DeleteThose pictures came out great, but I'm with Bob ... where's the backside view :-)
ReplyDeleteEvery time I go and see a ballet (which of course has not happened in the last two years), I muse about the difference this high performance sport does to the male and the female body. While it really brings out the male anatomy at its best (as you have noticed), many female ballet dancers are emaciated and have almost no femininity left, all curves gone.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I am happy that you had a great night out with your friend! And your beautiful card arrived yesterday - thank you!
Oh my god, finishing with the Waffle House is just so over the top. How can there ever be another evening like that? So glad you enjoyed it. For something completely different, you should see the Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo perform Cinderella! Apparently it’s poor blogging etiquette (so I’ve read) to share links in comments, so just google it!
ReplyDeleteDelightful!!!! But I hoped you learned something and waltzed INTO the Waffle House?
ReplyDeleteYes one of the visual delights of seeing live ballet is the physiques of the dancers.
ReplyDeleteThey are in excellent shape.
I feel cheated that there were NO pictures of the highlight...
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your evening! You deserve a treat like that for your school break!
ReplyDeleteWhat, no backside pictures? After that big lead-in? Seriously, appreciating the beauty of the human form is a huge part of the appeal of ballet -- not just the movement but the musculature.
ReplyDeleteFlorence SC is clearly a very cultured city. In my ignorance I have never seen a ballet show in my life but I have eaten waffles.
ReplyDeletewow...that must have been amazing.
