Last day

Today was the last day of my yearly work contract--my first year at the elementary school is finished! I'm so pleased with the job and the environment, as you all know. I go back to start the "new" year July 8th. For the next 10 days, I'm on vacation!

Or should I say, "Staycation"? It's too damn hot to go anywhere. Today it got up to 99 degrees with a heat index of 108, thanks to the humidity. Going outside at any point, day or night, is just unbearable at the moment. The humidity hits you like a suffocating wet blanket. Check out these temps:

But looking on the bright side...

  1. It was toasty up here in Central PA until some storms rolled through, not it's nice and comfy. Enjoy the Staycay, sometimes, they're the best.

    1. It's too hot to go anywhere and the beaches are packed with tourists. I'd rather stay home!

  6. Well done on your first year, Jennifer! You fully deserve those 10 days off (and more). Just make sure you get enough rest and relaxing times in, not packing too many jobs in and around the house into those precious days.
The heat in your area is really too much. I don't know how you all survive it - of course, nearly every house there has A/C, right? Here, nobody I know has A/C in their private homes. But then again, it rarely gets hotter than 38C/100F here.

    1. Every house has a/c. You just can't be without it here.

  7. I never thought about the heat that way. I guess it’s a good thing then. Still, wishing you a reprieve. Enjoy the staycation.

    1. We really need some rain, too. I keep hoping for a big thunderstorm with lots of rain!

  8. I can't imagine living without air conditioning here in the miserable Midwest! The cold I can manage, just wear layers and keep moving. The heat makes me cranky and toddler-like! Wow, it's been a year already for you in the new job, that's great! Enjoy your 10 days off - that will feel like a luxury, sleeping in, not having to get dressed for work. Ahhh.

  9. I've seen the same meme but instead of SC heat it says Florida heat. Same-same right now. And you're right- going outside does feel just like having a hot, wet blanket thrown over you.
    Rest and relax!

  13. Wow, that IS hot! I'm glad you're getting a little bit of summer vacation, even if it's spent almost entirely indoors. :)

  14. That reminds me of being in Grand Cayman. The shops etc were all like fridges, then when you went outside it was like being hit with a hammer.

  15. In the north of England, sustained periods of heat like that never happen - heat that drives you indoors and makes you long for cooler weather. Here it is a pleasant 20 degrees right now. What did you think of Joe Biden's CNN debate performance on Thursday night?

    1. I started crying halfway through it and Gregg turned it off. I have so much anxiety about Trump taking office again that it's making me almost (literally) sick. Biden has done a lot of good things, and I'll vote for him or anyone that runs against Trump and his maga cult, but this is a terrible situation that we're in. I have a lot of respect for JB, but I wish he wasn't the nominee.

    2. I hope that Mr Biden's family are privately urging him to do the right thing. There's still time for a different, younger candidate to step forward and crush Trump in November.
