Worth the backache

My back has been killing me this week. I stayed home from work on Monday and spent the day in a stupor from muscle relaxers. I realized when I pulled the bottle from the medicine cabinet that my doctor had prescribed them to me exactly one year ago this week. It's pretty obvious that my garden and all the work that goes into it in April is the culprit!

Backache aside, the garden is doing well. The vegetable raised beds are planted and starting to grow. And my roses? Heavenly. The Eustacia Vye I planted last year has been absolutely covered in dozens of rosebuds, and the two newbies (Benjamin Britten and Desdemona) both have several flowers and they were bare root plants less than three months ago. I'm in love!

Just look at these beauties.

Your roses are beauties, each one either subtly or dramatically different. Gardening can be dangerous! I overdid weed pulling and am vowing to stop that.

Hopefully, your back is "back" to normal soon. If I don't regularly do my back exercises (about ten minutes three times a week in the morning), I move like someone twice my age (which means 116!).
Your roses are gorgeous, and the photo with the bee is brilliant!

So sorry about your back. But, oh, your roses. The fragrances must be exquisite.

David Austin roses really are perfection.

I need to follow your example and find some back exercises to do! I've vowed to start stretching and moving around some (warming up) before I work in the garden. Thank you for the compliments on my roses! I'm really enjoying them.

The Eustacia Vye finally has some scent this year! All three are supposed to be highly fragrant, but I learned last year that they don't always develop scent the first year.

I wish I had room for more! Three just aren't enough. I also wish I had ample room to have some other types of roses, as much as I love the DAs.

Happy belated birthday dear Terra! I've gotten terribly slack about sending out cards and letters, but I've been thinking about you!

Soon I'll post some veggie pictures just for you, Cro. I know that veg growing is more your "thing"! :)

Thank you. My back is much better, although I'm trying not to overdo it.

Your roses are beautiful. Sorry that your back is giving you trouble. My doctor prescribed muscle relaxers for my back too. I took one of them and it knocked me out so much that I haven't taken another one. Wishing you a pain free back soon!

Lovely roses. Thank you for the pics. I swear by yes2next on YouTube for keeping my back working. And walking immediately after exertion, to unlock it!

Beautiful roses. I'm still at the tiny bud stage up here in Central PA.

Your roses are beautiful! I too, am feeling my age in my back - all due to cutting back perennials and trimming up many shrubs this past week. Hope your muscles recover soon! -Jenn

WOW, gobsmacked by the photos of such beauty. You have done such a good job.
When backs give us grief the world becomes dark! The backbone of our happiness letting us down , so to speak. We were not meant for sudden back demands I don't think. We ought to be on all fours still. That hefty back work is a lot to ask of faulty evolution- bending in the garden. Anyway, paid off with the incredible roses that you have nurtured. Gorgeous! Take care, you matter more than your roses, I must say.

Great photos and beautiful roses! Isn't it amazing that bare-root plants grow so rapidly into blooming bushes?!

I'm sorry about your back. I hope it improves.
