Brighter

This morning dawned gloriously bright and sunny, although still quite cold. The little bit of ice and the brief snow flurries we got didn't amount to much. The East coast only a few miles north of here is in dire straits with the massive winter storm that passed through, but we got lucky.

I snapped a picture of Ginger yesterday with snowflakes on her fur. She looks kind of disgusted here, but that's because she hates it when I take her picture. She doesn't mind cold weather.

My sweet girl

I'm doing my best to shake off the bad mood I've been in lately. I have a lot to be grateful for and I do try to remember that. And so many people have real worries and sorrows that I feel guilty when I'm feeling down for too long.

Remember the high school friend that I provided transportation to and from the hospital for a couple of weeks ago? Her 19 year old son passed away yesterday. That's the second child she's lost to Duchenne's muscular dystrophy. She's 42 years old and two of her three children have died (her daughter is healthy and not a carrier of the disease, thank goodness). I cannot imagine how terrible her grief must be.

So today I'm going to make sure the people I care about know how much I love them. And I'm going to enjoy the nice weather, and my cosy house, and my comfortable life. I'm going to practice gratitude instead of ruminating on the parts of my life that I want to change.

Have a happy Sunday, everyone!

  2. Awwwww I love the photo of Ginger, that look is so funny.
When I was living through some hard times (even today) I pretend I am happy. No kidding
don't laugh, for me it works. It takes some time but after a while it works and soon your seeing the nice and not just the bad. For me it is like hitting the reset button.
The Square Ones are always a great start.
So sorry to hear about your friend. Life is sometimes very hard to understand.

    cheers, parsnip and thehamish

  3. Ginger looks a bit disgruntled. Be there for your friends and appreciate all you have. There are no do overs in this life.

  4. How dreadful for your friend; I don't think I'd ever recover from such sadness.

  5. Poor woman, to lose her two sons, and for her daughter to lose both her brothers so early in life. Reminds me of my mother-in-law who was widowed before in her mid-40s, and then lost two of her four children within the space of two years - her youngest (my husband) first, and then her other son. Her daughters remain, and are of great comfort to her, along with the grandchildren, and she is doing admirably well (at nearly 82), but loss and grief have taken their toll on her no doubt.

I hope the many good things (and good people, and your dear pets) can cheer you up a little bit each day.

  6. You can't fool me Jennifer! That isn't snow on Ginger's fur, it's dandruff! Have you tried "Head and Shoulders...and Tail" the dandruff shampoo formula for dogs? And if you want an easy way to cheer up arrange for Gregg to spend half an hour simply ticking you! Armpits and soles of feet are my weakpoints. Mind you - no fighting back - just give way to the tickling! To avoid unwelcome dampness, ensure that you have visited the bathroom before the tickling begins.
