Crazy American chick! I would never think to put salt on water melon! The bowl of strawberries with blueberries looks so tempting - as if from a summer recipe book.
I was born sans watermelon gene. I can only find pink paste, or salted pink paste. But bring on everything else, especially muskemelon. Raspberries! Strawberries. Oh, heck, I want it all, except watermelon.
My husband doesn't care for watermelon either, which is why I gave half of the one pictured above to my friend Marla. A whole watermelon is too much for one person!
I love watermelon! Italians have introduced to my country eating it with prosciutto, which is a lovely combination of savoury and sweet, so I can well imagine that it goes well with salt. It's all about cherries and strawberries here right now. The tree in front of my kitchen window is already harvested - only a few cherries left for the blackbirds. Never have we had our own cherries so early!
Oh, how I wish we had cherries here! It's too darn hot for them here (and not cold enough in the winter) and they cost a small fortune when they are shipped in from other parts of the country.
My husband and I were reminiscing about salted watermelon just the other day. Now we both have high blood pressure, so salt is a thing of the past for watermelon in our house.

DeleteThe really best part of being pregnant in the summer (and there weren't too many good parts) was the food available. All the watermelon I wanted.
ReplyDeleteI just took Marla half of a watermelon. I figured it would be good, refreshing food for a nursing mama.

ReplyDeleteMum isn't the only one, apparently! :)
DeleteI love the reactions to the salt! I would never do it either but it's very popular in the States.
