Good Tuesday afternoon, friends. How's your week going?
Mine is going sloooooow. I have next week off (it's our fall break/intersession) and the days are starting to drag just as they always do when time off is on the horizon.
I have a few plans for the week, but nothing major. I certainly can't afford to go anywhere right now (worse luck!) but I'm going to try to enjoy myself in small ways. My plans are:
- Write several blog posts that have been rattling around in my head lately, one of which will be short book reviews of stuff I've read recently.
- Attempt to make pomegranate jelly! Yes, my pomegranate tree is loaded with ripe fruit for the first time this year, and I don't want it to go to waste. I've counted 15 large poms on the tree ready to be picked, so I should have enough for a few jars. The recipe looks simple enough...we shall see.
- After a years' (multiple) long hiatus, I'm going to pick up my knitting needles again and work on a project. The lovely young couple across the street are having a baby girl next month, and I'd like to knit a blanket for her. They're planning to name her Georgia. Isn't that pretty? It will be an exceedingly simple blanket, knit on large needles, since I'm so out of practice, but I think it will be a good project to begin again with.
- Invite Martina over with her dog, Harker, for a playdate with Poppy one afternoon. Those two dogs are close in age and love each other! They both still have lots of "puppy" in them.
- Gregg wants to put a second coat of paint on the bathroom walls. I really don't feel like doing any more painting, but he's not going to be satified until we have a second coat on there.
I'm grateful to have made it to fall intersession with my new job. I kept telling myself last spring (when I first found out I'd landed the job) that by October I should be fairly comfortable with everything. And it's true! I've learned a lot, and it's such a good environment that I haven't had a single bit of work stress since starting there. None. Zero. What a wonderful change from last year!
What would you do with a week off at home?
Enjoy your time off! I'm retired, so every week is a week off for me, LOL!
ReplyDeleteLucky you!
DeleteSame as Debra. I'm retired so, other than working out at the Pain Cave and Crafting, every week is a week off for me. Glad for you I am that, after the awfulness you went through, things are going so well in the new job.
ReplyDeleteOh, me too. I'm so lucky in this new job. I never have to give it a thought when I'm not there.
DeleteSame as Debra and Shirley. But we remember those days, yours and ours. Have a great week off.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteNothing wrong with a staycation and pick up on past and loved hobbies. Never knitted, but I'd think late fall and winter would be a great time to knit. I myself am just put the final touches on the next vacation happening in October. Have never traveled abroad this time of year.
ReplyDeleteIt's been SUCH a long time since I've knitted anything that I'll almost have to re-teach myself, probably. That's why I'm looking for a super simple project!
DeleteDays off are fun. Do something fun! Next week I'm going to be ripping most of my kitchen cabinets as part of my kitchen renovation. I may even install the new dishwasher. Paint is considered a finish and usually 2 coats are much better than one. Three, unless you covering a red, might be a little too many.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the kitchen renovation! I wish I was handy enough to do lots of work myself.
DeletePomegranate 'molasses' was very trendy here recently (I've never tried it), so maybe you could find a recipe.
ReplyDeleteHmm. I wonder if that's like a syrup made of pomegranate juice? I'll have to Google it.
DeleteYour plans for the week off sound reasonable - not too much, because even though you say you don't have work stress at the new place, it is still work, and we all need a rest from time to time.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a week off, I'd spend most of it walking - but then you knew that already, didn't you :-D In inclement weather, I'd spend much time reading, blogging, playing my favourite computer games etc. - all depending on whether O.K. would have time off as well or not.
I wish Gregg could take the week off, too. But it won't be long before he retires (partially, at least).
DeleteEnjoy whatever you do. Every week is a week off for me.
ReplyDeleteLucky you!
DeleteI'm glad you've settled into the new job so well! Our October break comes at the beginning of the week after next. It's not a full week -- just two days plus the weekend. We're taking a little trip!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds great! Where are you going?
DeleteHow lovely that you've eliminated work stress from your life. With a week off I'd be walking with Princess, reading, watching a few movies, and doing some cleaning and organizing around the house and garage. I enjoy working in the yard. I hope you enjoy your intersession.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Thanks Janie. I'll be doing a lot of those same things.
DeleteWith a week off at home, I would read "War and Peace", learn to tap dance, make a model of The Tower of London from matchsticks, tidy up my underhouse man cave, bring my poetry together to make a printable collection, trim the lawn and hedges and tidy up the vegetable plot. That should be enough.
ReplyDeleteHaha.
DeleteWhatever you do, make sure it's what you wan to do. And enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteYes. What I'd really like to go is take a short trip somewhere, but that's not in the cards right now.
DeleteI am so happy that your job continues to go so well! And I am looking forward to your intersession posts, too. This weekend? If the sun shines maybe a trip up to the north county to go on a kitchen shopping trip to upgrade some of our stuff. The Biker and I are looking forward to this inordinately.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was still working outside the home and how wonderful it was to have a week off to stay home. I would read, quilt, do genealogy work on the computer, cook, bake, count myself fortunate. I'm happy you have that to look forward to next week.
