Solstice Day

This is the solstice, the still point
of the sun, its cusp and midnight,
the years's threshold
and unlocking, where the past
lets go of and becomes the future;
the place of caught breath, the door
of a vanished house left ajar.
                                       Margaret Atwood

Happy Midwinter Day! The Solstice is here. It's a time to be still, to reflect, and then to celebrate the return of the Sun. May we all find comfort and joy during the long nights as we await the return of the light!

I like the poem, Jennifer but your words more, thank you.
I want to wish you and Gregg, also to the furs and feather, a Happy Peaceful Christmas! A huge hug.
Greetings Maria xx

The light will return as it has for eons. I am certainly happy about that!

Jennifer, hours after sundown as I type this comment, I have the feeling that today was a special day, without really being able to describe why I think that is so.

Maybe tomorrow's additional amount of sunlight will encourage me to wake up earlier than either the sunrise or my alarm clock's beeping.

Thank you for the poem, too. xo

It will be very welcomed here. Dark early, and light late, really doesn't suit my way of life. I look forward to the change.

I admire that little piece by Margaret Atwood. If I was going to write a poem about the winter solstice I would want to say something similar in similar words.
