I didn't realize I was opening a can of worms yesterday by mentioning that my husband and I own two small pistols. Even though we're staunch believers in much tighter gun control, even though I think the NRA's stranglehold on our political leaders is a national disgrace, even though I think automatic weapons should have been outlawed years ago, I'm getting all sorts of negative feedback implying that I'm some kind of paranoid, uneducated, gun-loving American. I hate feeling like I need to defend myself (over something of such minor significance in my life).
I realize I'm a bit overly sensitive right now, so rather than discuss it further, let's just change the damn subject. Okay?
The weather has been unseasonably warm for this time of year. We finally got a little bit of rain yesterday, but that just made the humidity worse. It's sticky and gross outside. Everything is damp. And how long can it stay hot in October, even in South Carolina?

I don't think that at all dearheart .nor does anyone who reads sparrow tree x
Too warm here, too. Waiting for the hurricane rain to move into NE Ohio. And, ditto John.
What John said. And Joanne.
We certainly have guns as Mr. Moon hunts. And a big old bow for the same. They're locked up and not even in the house.
What calibre?
I don't know what to say, well I do but... Trying to zip it. Remember we met over many of the same people saying some very awful things about me. So I am standing with you ! You are one terrific person ! Outstanding.
Do Not have a gun but know how to use them.
Love the cartoon...
cheers, parsnip
Love the bones eating boneless meat.
I know you are a great person, and we have the same view on the subject we are not mentioning. Hugs from me.
I had to go over your last posting's comments to see what you were talking about. I have friends in big US cities, and others in S Africa who all keep a small handgun in the house. I don't think people in the UK or Australia realise the danger that people face on a daily basis in some places. Whether they would ever use them or not is another question, but it makes them feel safer; and that's what matters.
I'm very pleased to hear Kay is doing well. As for the gun debate, I'm not entering into this discussion today.

This is your blog, Jennifer, and neither here nor anywhere else do you need to justify yourself in front of your readers. The only justifying one may have to do every now and then is at the work place, for a thing done (or not done), but that is a completely different matter.
Have you made any decision on the new GAL child Jennifer? I recall you said you would need to make a decision on Monday. I hope this week goes well for you whatever your decide.
Hopefully by the end of the month (if not sooner!) things will cool off! Sorry about the negativity you've encountered. Moving right along!
I don't like guns, but I know a lot of people who have them. It's not as if you're wandering around looking for an excuse to shoot someone. Anyone who reads your blog regularly should know you better than that. I have nothing but love and admiration for you, especially with your GAL work. It's very hot and humid here. I'm tired of it. I'm tired of a lot of things.
Love,
Janie
It's been unseasonably warm here in Yorkshire too. I missed the responses to your last post regarding guns. Here in Yorkshire it is so easy to live without guns but it's not so easy to live gun-free in South Carolina.
I read your post a couple days ago and didn’t comment because you didn’t want to discuss it further. But I do want to say that I do not think having two small pistols is a problem at all. I don’t think for a second you are an uneducated, gun-loving American. I don’t know about the paranoid part. I can only speak for myself and I am definitely paranoid. When 58 people are murdered in a matter of minutes we all should be.
I have no problems with pistols. We are having some difficult family issues and in the last few weeks I have considered getting one myself.
I'm wishing October remains hot here; I have bell peppers in pot plants that nature has gifted me and they need warm weather to ripen. Jenifer, you are intelligent, unselfish, sweet and very kind; that's you!
Greetings Maria x
Thank you John. You're a sweet friend.
This heat is driving me crazy. And it isn't just hot; it's humid too. Strange weather for mid October.
I only mentioned it at all in my first post because I was talking about gun control and I didn't want to be a hypocrite.
Seriously, Tom?!
You devil. :)
I do remember! You've been a great friend to me ever since. Thank you Gayle.
Ha! I didn't notice that! Good eye!
You've been on my mind all week Terra. I hope you're feeling better. Give Bounce a squeeze and kiss from me!
Thanks for stopping in and showing me some support, Cro!
I'm happy for Kay. She's doing better than anyone expected. :)
You're right, Meike. I have a problem with over-apologizing in my life for things there's no reason to apologize for.
I won't be taking on the new child....more about that later.
Thanks Steve! It's 90 degrees today and humid. Crazy, terrible weather for this time of year.
I'm tired of a lot of things, too. I know just how you feel.
Things are very different here. I'd rather have it your way.
Thanks for the comment, Birdie. I hope the family issues work themselves out for you.
Everyone keeps saying such nice things that I'm embarrassed. Thank you Maria.
I wish I could send you our warm, warm weather for your bell peppers! We're all tired of it!
We are having some difficult family issues and in the last few weeks I have considered getting one myself.
