A yellow iris popped up in our yard the other day, and it was a complete surprise. In the seven or eight years we've lived in this house, I've never seen an iris in any color besides purple.
In the afternoon light it looked like a spot of pure sunshine on the ground earlier today. What a beautiful color!

What a beautiful Iris.
We have had very short spring and not many wildflowers. So Sad.
cheers, parsnip
I love garden surprises! What a pretty one.
It's funny how that happens. We once has hundreds of simple Poppies appeared out of the blue; it was like having been given a present by mother nature.
Yellow is such a happy, cheerful colour. That's why I love daffodils.
You know yellow is my favourite colour, so of course I love this particular iris!
Gorgeous. I wonder where it's been all these years. We planted a huge iris bed at our house in Connecticut. We started with more than 60 bulbs of different types. I wonder what it looks like now 25 years later.
And what a huge Iris!
I have yellow Irises like that, although in the still cold northeast, there is no sign of them. They usually bloom in May, but who knows what will happen this year. These Irises double, triple and quadruple over the years so you will have big bursts of color from this gift from Mother Nature in times to come.

Sweet golden gift.
Yellow is a happy color. Fun surprise.
Interesting! Do you think it's been there the whole time and just never bloomed until now? I see yellow irises all over Hampstead Heath, in the ponds, but I think they might be a slightly different type.
What a gift! I wonder how it got there.
It's evidence of yellow magic.
I'm sorry your weather has been so bad.
I know! We've had several surprises pop up in the yard since we moved in. An old lady that loved flowers lived here before us!
I love poppies! I imagine the poppy fields outside of Oz!
When I posted the photo on Facebook, my dad said it looked "like a daffodil on steroids" ! :)
My mother in law loved yellow, too. I wish she was here to see this.
I'll bet there's a huge, beautiful field of irises there now!
Worth it's weight in gold!
We won't be living here too much longer, but as most of the irises don't get enough sun (the trees have grown a lot since we first moved in and the shade inhibits the blooms) I plan to dig up a few to take with us when we go.
It really is a happy color!
We often get lots of iris leaves, but very few blooms thanks to the shade the trees provide after they leaf out in the spring. At least, that's my theory. When we first moved in the purple irises bloomed like gangbusters, but as the trees have grown the flowers have gotten few and far between. So yes, I imagine it's been here the whole time!
See my response to Steve above!
It did appear like magic after a couple of rainy days! :)
It is a big one!
Beautiful colour. The petals look so velvety and delicate.
