Rainy, dreary Sunday

The terrible thunderstorms forecast for last night never materialized, but the rain and unseasonably warm temperatures sure did. It's been gloomy, wet, and warm all day, a thoroughly yuck Sunday afternoon. I'm craving some real winter weather, not this weird pseudo-Spring that just feels off, not to mention all the budding that's started that's destined to be killed off by the next cold snap. I'm particularly worried about my neighbor's magnificent Tulip Magnolia tree. It already has swollen buds and it's much too early.

Sigh.

Maybe it's the weather, or post-holiday letdown, or the lack of light, but today has just been...dreary. Dull. Low energy, low mood, ennui. The only bright spots were sitting outside with Marco on the back porch (the one thing this unseasonably warm weather is good for!) and watching the bird feeders. The days are beginning to lengthen a little and our feeder activity is way, way up. I counted ten species of birds this morning, and Marco preened and chattered and watched.

Speaking of Marco, and speaking of speaking, I caught this clip of him saying "Hey sweet boy!" a little while ago. Don't be alarmed at his appearance; he had had a shower and was still wet.

It can never be but so dull with a parrot around. He was watching me chop onions and peppers for tonight's supper and started talking to get my attention. When I stirred the sauce after taking this video, he said, "MmmmMMM!!! Is it good?!?!!" Marco is the most encouraging chef's apprentice ever. :)

I'm off to finish our dinner now and to wait for Gregg to get home. Hopefully with a glass of wine, a nice meal, and some Netflix before bed I can redeem a little bit of this dreary day.

Good night, friends.

  2. Same-same here. Dreary, warm, humid.
As you drink your wine, I am having a martini.
I have a crush on Marco.

  5. I saw where part of South Carolina had a tornado touch down. I'm sure glad you didn't have that kind of weather. We had snow yesterday with temps in the teens but just a few days ago it was 60 and warm. I can't take those extreme changes.

Marco sure does have a sweet voice! I agree with Ms. Moon, I think I have a crush on Marco too. Maybe we should start a Marco Fan Club!

    1. Whew! Two tornadoes touched down here: one in Kershaw county at a high school, thankfully in the middle of the night so no one was hurt, and then this morning at a high school parking lot in Loris. Several cars were on top of each other and twisted/wrecked! Again, no one hurt, which is the main thing. This weather has been crazy.

  6. We had -3C frost yesterday morning, but a beautiful sunny day. Things are starting to sprout here too; far too early.

    1. It's happening all up and down the Eastern seaboard, here, and from what I understand it's going in a lot of Europe. At least you had sunshine!

  7. Some days are just like that, aren't they, when it seems almost impossible to shake off the dull, dreary feeling. Like you, I find that a good meal helps, and for me, reading a good book or watching a film I like also does the trick. And then, the next day is a new day! Hooray for that!

    1. It's still rainy and gloomy outside, but being busy at work helps a lot.

  9. It freaks me out a little how smart parrots are! Not only talking, but talking IN CONTEXT. We're having unseasonably warm weather too. It's creepy, and I also worry about what it means for the plants and animals -- though they always seem to do just fine. (In recent, also strange years.)

    1. Steve, sometimes it really IS freaky how smart they are. I should be used to it by now, but even I'm surprised regularly.

Yes, I worry for the plants and animals....but you're right, they usually seem just fine. I do know that our state peach crop will suffer if we don't get enough nights below a certain temperature or if we have unseasonably early flower buds that then get frozen and drop off. I look forward to my peaches every year!

  14. Checking in to see if there's anything new about Marco and SCORE! I love that bird.

But wait. Does he take regular showers? By himself, or on your shoulder? Or does he have his own teeny tiny shower stall? I must know every detail.
