Back from the wilderness

We went on a three day camping trip down at Lynches River.  Our new tent was awesome and kept us dry and comfortable during an unexpected downpour and thunderstorm on the last night.

Ginger and George did great! They're really good campers. In fact, they both insisted on sleeping on the air mattress with me, and poor Gregg got stuck sleeping on the floor. They refused to budge! But they DID keep me nice and warm, and Gregg was a good sport about it.

Pictures!

Lynches River

Ferns growing on the bark of a tree by the river.

All sorts of interesting moss grows on the ground and trees....but this cactus over in the corner of the campsite was a surprise.

The sky over our campsite after a thunderstorm.

Our new tent!
Cozy. The air mattress is on the right, which is where I slept with the dogs. The dogs' bed is on the left, which is where poor Gregg ended up sleeping! Hahaha!

Tiny fairy lights made dinner easier to manage after dark!

A big, blazing campfire each night is essential!

Camp dog...chillin'....
Napping in the tent during a rainstorm...on OUR air mattress! :)
Pretty girl on the river walk....

  1. When I was single I camped all the time. When I married 40+ years ago I made my wife a promise that the closest we would come to camping would be motel 6. Still married and keeping my promise.

    1. Not many women I know care to go camping. But I love it, provided there's not too much "roughing it"!

  2. I love the ferns and mosses, and the after-the-storm sky is truly spectacular! Good to know all went well - except maybe for Gregg who I imagine has something of a sore back after sleeping on the ground ;-)

    1. Gregg actually felt ok after sleeping on the ground...I was afraid he'd have a backache, but he didn't. We were both the worn out after 3 days of camping, but in a good way...lots of fresh air and exercise feels good after a winter of being stuck indoors.

  3. Your new tent looks so beautiful and cozy! I don't like camping and not because of wanting comforts, etc but because I feel vulnerable sleeping in a tent - I always have. If Ginger and George were protecting me either sides and Gregg on the floor near the entrance flap then I think I could managed one night in your lovely tent!

    1. We only camp in state and county parks, which is about as safe as possible when sleeping outdoors. There was also a bathhouse with showers and toilets nearby so we weren't "roughing it" too much! The new tent is much more spacious and comfortable than our last one. And of course Ginger and George hear every little sound and would alert us to any danger. So there's not really anything to be scared of! :)

  4. I was put off camping for life by a Boy Scout camp I went to as a teenager. It rained solidly for two weeks and everything was just a sea of mud and filth. Was I relieved to get home again!

Jenny always hankers after a camping holiday but I'm afraid I always flatly refuse. I like a bit of comfort and all mod cons. But I must say your new tent looks so comfortable I'm almost tempted....

    1. It's a bit of a pain to set up a campsite for ultimate comfort...you have to take lots of stuff....but it's worth it to stay clean and dry and to not have to "rough it" too much. We had a queen size air mattress, lots of blankets, a rain fly over the tent, large Colman chairs to sit by the fire in...and at this particular park the rangers cut and stack firewood for the campers to use. There's so much wood that you can have big blazing fires all might long if you want to!

  5. Poor old Gregg! This post proves that he gets treated like a dawg! Why not get him a leather collar with brass studs and a lead? You'll also need to extra strong bags for the poop... or have I gone too far this time?

I am happy to learn that the Lynches River trip was a big success and that you only got rain on the last night. Great pictures too. My favourite was "Ferns growing on the bark of a tree by the river".
