100 years

Today would have been my grandfather's 100th birthday. I didn't realize it until my mom posted about it on Facebook.

I was very close to my maternal grandparents. My childhood home wasn't a happy one; my grandma and "Pa" Lewis made my world more secure than it would have been without them. I miss them and will be thinking of them along with the rest of my beloved dead in the next couple of days (All Souls is November 2).

Here is a picture of my grandparents at my parents' wedding in January of 1973.

Left to right: my grandfather Marvin Lewis, my mom, my dad, and my grandmother Ora Lee Lewis.

Happy 100th Birthday, Pa. I love you. I miss you.

  1. As the years pass, I miss certain loved ones even more. The way my mom and dad would take charge of a problem to solve it is something I need.

    Love,
    Janie

  2. What a sweet picture, bride and groom look so radiant, and your grandparents look happy, too. Sorry to hear your childhood wasn't happy in spite of such great-looking beginnings.

I was born exactly 100 years after one of my great-grandfathers, but he died many years before my birth. I always liked that coincidence.

Steve (my late husband) would have been 48 today, and on Nov. 5th is the 7th anniversary of his death. A time of the year with mixed emotions for me, as it is for anyone who thinks of lost loved ones.

  9. Great photo and sweet memories. It made me think about my maternal grandparents (not the same kind of relationship that you had), but my grandfather has been gone 33 years and he would be 127 this year!
