Gifts in the mail

I bought myself a little early birthday gift this week. A friend of mine has an Etsy page where he sells homemade jewelry. His "Tree of Life" pendents caught my eye, especially the one made with amethysts. Since he offered me a good "old school friend" discount, I bought two....both the amethyst and rose quartz pendents.

Aren't they pretty? I wish the picture had turned out a little better, they're much nicer looking than they seem here.

On the day they arrived in the mail, I also got a birthday card from my grandma with a check for $100 inside! That was so sweet of her. My birthday isn't for another two weeks but she likes to get ahead of things.  My grandma is so good to me!

I wore the rose quartz necklace to work that day, but I'm saving the amethysts for my actual birthday.

  1. Very pretty pendants! My Mum would love those, too. Not everyone can carry amethyst well, but you are certainly of the right colouring for it - it will look fabulous on you!
How kind and generous of your grandma. Can you see her every now and then, or does she live very far away?

    1. My grandmother lives about a two hour drive away from here. I see her occasionally, and we talk on the phone regularly. She will be 90 years old this summer, and still lives independently, although she doesn't drive anymore. My aunt lives nearby and drives her wherever she needs to go.

Thank you for the kind words about the pendents! They are both much prettier than they look in the photo!

  4. What a kind grandmother you have. But we are two countries united by great differences and I a bit curious as to why this is so. Aside from the spelling of cheque, we no longer use them, except in exceptional circumstances. It must be twenty years or more since I wrote a cheque. In the mid 1990s I began paying bills with automated phone systems, now all done online. We don't even pay tradespeople who might fix something in our home in any other way than online. They email a bill, we go to our banking website and pay the bill. I am not being critical. It is just a curious thing. Yet, the USA has invented card readers for payments for meals with optional tipping amounts. Amazing. Tip 10%, 15% or 20%. We are Australian and so don't tip but we know we need to in the US, so we only ever selected the 10% button.

    1. Checks aren't used much here these days, either, but grandma is almost 90 years old. She doesn't have email, and she can't drive to buy an actual gift or a gift card these days. I will always be happy with a check if that's the easiest thing for her to do. (Or even just a card). Tipping is necessary here because servers don't even make minimum wage. 10% is pretty low, 15% is supposed to be the baseline for good service. Just FYI.

  5. Nice pendants. I hope that you and Gregg are going to have a happy birthday meal together. If you are reading this Gregg, it's time to crack open the old wallet my friend. Just brush away the cobwebs first. How about the Olive Garden on W Radio Drive?

    1. Someone has been checking out Florence on Google Earth again! 😃 Olive Garden is awful...not to mention that it's right across the street from my godawful workplace.

    2. Olive Garden is listed on Trip Advisor as 15th out of 213 restaurants in Florence and surrounding area. Tubb's Fish and Shrimp Restaurant comes top so if you like fish and/or shrimp why not go there instead?

    3. I'm eating lunch at Tubbs with a friend tomorrow! It's only about 3 blocks from my house!

    4. Damn! I am running out of places to suggest for the birthday meal... Why not drive down to Lake City and try Crossroads on Main. Number 1 of 32 eating places in Lake City.

  6. The necklaces are lovely. I am sure you will treasure these more because of your connection to the artist.

How wonderful that you call your grandma often. Being a grandmother, I know how much joy that gives her.
