Mistletoe in Spring

Yesterday I saw something fairly unusual in my backyard. There's a tree with low hanging branches way in the back, and on one of them is a bunch of mistletoe growing only 6 feet off the ground. I could easily have picked it if it was the right season for such things.

Today is the Equinox, and I'm so happy it's Spring! This is my favorite season. I took the dogs for a good walk this morning  (I have to work tonight) and we saw masses of white blooming dogwood trees, irises, and even a couple of bluebirds flying around in the stand of old pine trees behind the corner church. It's a beautiful day!

Have a good one, my friends!

Don't tell Gregg about the mistletoe. When you have steered him under that branch you will be able to snog him till he goes weak at the knees. He won't know what's hit him!
(I guess a bird must have dropped seeds there having chewed upon mistletoe berries somewhere.)

One thing I DO appreciate about a four-season climate is the change from winter to spring. I used to love seeing those special "bloomers" like irises, forsythia, dogwoods, and more. However, I don't appreciate it enough to want to live through those winters again! Still... I'm happy for you! I've never seen a close-up of mistletoe on a tree in spring.

We can mostly only see the mistletoe here in winter when the trees have lost their leaves. It's always there though and sometimes, it falls out.
Beautiful day here today too.

It feels very spring like in our Spanish garden, the lavender and wisteria are already in bloom and there are oranges in the trees. I think we will get a shock when we go back to a cooler France next week.

I noticed mistletoe in the trees yesterday, no bluebirds though.

Your mistletoe is very pretty even though it is killing that tree. Here in Arizona it is a dark black mass of stringy witches fingers. You would not want to kiss under it at all !

I think we are all happy spring is here.
cheers, parsnip

I don't think I've ever seen mistletoe growing anywhere, but I might not recognize it. Get your honey under that branch for a sweet spring kiss.

Love,
Janie

What a nice surprise. I've tried, in the past, to grow Mistletoe, but it never took.

Plenty of mistletoe in the trees around O.K.'s village, too, where we went for a good walk on Sunday. When I was little, I thought they were birds' nests, but my Dad explained things to me and showed me real nests.
Yes, a wonderful season, and our birthday week, Jennifer :-))))

We had hoped for an early spring what with high temperatures in February, but then Mother Nature brought us back to reality and let down some snow, sleet and ice upon us last week. However, it has warmed up and that mess is almost completely gone so we can look forward to the buds opening and and color re-entering our lives.

Jennifer, I am making a quick visit to blog posts I love...and what do I find here but a non-New Year's view of mistletoe! How ignorant I am of so many of nature's wonders.

I am still in final stages of recovery from that February fall, but so, so much better. Following this week's Congressional hearings on tv, and writing to my Senators and Representative. And ... have just finished a very good novel, The Essex Serpent, that will be published over here this year.
