Surprisingly good

Well. I feel surprisingly good considering I drank a whole bottle of champagne last night to celebrate my last day at the bookstore!

I didn't intend to drink the whole thing. Gregg doesn't drink so I didn't have anyone to share it with. I popped the cork around 8pm and sipped until midnight, at which point the bottle was empty. I was a little worried about how I'd feel this morning, but besides a slight headache (easily solved with two Ibuprofen) I feel fine. Thank goodness.

Yesterday went by in a flash. Right before I left, my coworkers surprised me: they had pooled their money to buy me going-away gifts and a cake! They had also signed a sweet card for me. Between the card and the gifts and the hugs and the kind words, I had to fight back tears more than once. I never expected such a wonderful send off! Then at 4:30pm a couple of my book club friends showed up at the store to see me "dance your way out the door" as they put it...and one of those crazy women filmed me clocking out and leaving! Hahaha! That made me laugh so hard! I have some wonderful friends.

It feels really weird this morning to be between the old job and the new....but surprisingly good, just like my (mostly non-existent) hangover!

  4. Sounds like you had a fantastic final day. Glad you're not hung over!

The job I had before this one was my first(and to date, my only) full-time job. I had to quit when my daughter was born..and the ladies in the office threw me a baby shower! I was surely not expecting that!

  7. For those occasions that call for champagne but when there is nobody to share it with, how about the small bottles of about 0.25 litre? They are very popular here in Germany, we call them "Piccolo". My Mum and I sometimes share one when we feel like sparkling wine but know an entire bottle would be too much.

    1. I've only ever seen tiny bottles of champagne given out as gifts when a new baby arrives, and I'm not sure where they're sold! I drink champagne so rarely that it isn't much of an issue.

  8. I used to drink a lot of champagne when I was a stockbroker. Too much, and could easily drink a bottle on my own.

  9. You drank it over quite a span of time, which probably saved you. Champagne almost ALWAYS gives me a headache. I'd rather have wine any day!

    1. I prefer champagne to wine, and red wine gives me heartburn these days. Champagne almost always gives me a headache, too, but it's worth it once in a while.

  10. Four hours for one bottle of champagne? That's only about 5 glass of champagne. In four hours! No wonder you don't have a hangover. You are obviously not a lush! SO excited for you (about the last day at the bookstore... well, and the fact that you're not a lush).

    1. No, I'm certainly not a lush! I like to have a cocktail (usually a G&T) after work occasionally, but even that has become increasingly rare.

One of my going away gifts from my coworkers was a $50 gift card to a local store that sells spirits, wine, and mixers. I used it to splurge on a small bottle of expensive bourbon that I would normally never buy for myself. I'm looking forward to sipping a tiny glass of it after my first day at the school! :)
