Another perk

There's yet another perk of my job I meant to mention here: fresh eggs! One of the science teachers keeps a large flock of chickens and sells wonderful eggs for $2.50 per dozen.

Aren't those beautiful? They're the best eggs I've ever had. Look at the rich orange yolks....

We had some for our supper tonight. Delicious!

  1. I love those shell colors, they are works of art.

  2. We're almost into 'double yolker' season here. My egg man has some breed of Hens that continue to lay double yolkers for months. He told me they'll soon start! It's a strange experience.

  3. That is certainly a perk I wouldn't have expected as part of working at a school! :-)

  4. Those eggs are beautiful. Thank whoever for photography. Otherwise, how could you possibly part with them?!?

  5. What a variety of colours. Does he or she put dye in their food? $2.50 is very cheap. We pay retail about $5 per dozen for free range eggs, which are not terribly free range. For proper free range as we imagine in our head, perhaps over $6.

  6. Wow! I love the colour of those eggshells whereas factory-farmed eggs tend to be the same colour with very little variation.

  7. The color of the eggshells is due to the breed of the chicken. The factories all use the same breed of chickens- thus their eggs are all the same color whereas people who keep their own chickens can have whatever breeds they want. And hens who get to eat a wide variety of foods (such as bugs and plants) lay eggs with much richer yolk colors. You are getting a real bargain, Jennifer!

  8. I never knew until I started reading blogs -- particularly Ms Moon's blog -- that eggs could come in such a rainbow of colors! (Well, maybe "rainbow" is an exaggeration -- but there IS a lot of color there!)
