Good things

Things are getting better around here. The cloud is slowly (slowly) lifting a little. For once I have some good things to comment on!

Good thing the first:

Ginger has improved quite a bit. Except for a slight residual head tilt, to look at her you wouldn't know anything had ever happened. And you'd have to be looking for the tilt to notice that. Martina came over yesterday and told me that if she hadn't known what had happened with her, she wouldn't have any idea something so dramatic had gone down. Martina works as a veterinary technician so she's used to looking for health issues in dogs. We've also noticed Ginger get slightly off balance a time or two while out for short walks, usually when she's walking up onto the shoulder of the road. We're hopeful that these two minor things will resolve given a little more time. Today we're trying her without the motion sickness pill for the first time to see how she handles it. Of course, I'll be here all day to give her one if she gets dizzy or sick. Cross your fingers for us that she'll be able to discontinue it!

Good thing the second:

Martina came over yesterday to see Ginger, but also to take me out to the movies, her treat. She had gifted tickets left over from her birthday in July. We went to see Downton Abbey (something neither of our husbands cared to see) and we had such a good time! It was a lovely little escape from reality and very much needed. We're both fans of the original show.

Good thing the third:

Later this afternoon I'm going for Mexican food and margaritas with a few women from my book club group. We're celebrating the fact that one of the Karens finally landed a new job. It will be nice to have some time to catch up with them and I'll be back home early enough that Gregg and I can spend some time together doing the classic "Netflix and chill" thing! A night spent at home when (hopefully) nobody is sick or depressed sounds really good to me.

What kind of good things are going on with you this weekend?

  1. Netflix and chill sounds good to me. That's what Paul and I will be doing this evening.

  2. I am taking each moment as it comes today. No one needs me, all of my basic chores are done, I can do exactly what I want. I might spend some time reading, maybe some time embroidering and watching, yes, Netflix. It is almost noon and I just finished my breakfast and it's not quite as hot as it has been. And all of this is pretty good.
I'm so glad that life has lightened up for you and yours.

  3. I bought a funny refrigerator magnet this week that has a dog on it and it says "I swear I'm going to get my life together as soon as I finish this Netflix series." It so makes me laugh.

  4. We were at a trade show all day today, O.K.'s village band were playing there and I went along as is my habit when I am at his place for the weekend. We had a late lunch there after the performance and will probably just have bread, wine and cheese tonight, maybe in front of the telly if anything catches our interest.

  5. I loved the Downton movie. I saw it with my lady friends a week ago and it was a fun day out. I always enjoy times out with my friends; they are always pick-me-ups.

  6. I'm glad things are looking up! Dave and I want to see "Downton" but we haven't gone yet -- I'm glad you liked it. I also want to see the Judy Garland movie with Renee Zellweger. Thank goodness Ginger continues to improve!

  8. Set up my new Tacx bike trainer, worked on the new book, made spicy fired chicken strips, (notice I didn't say fingers, that looks odd).

  10. Yesterday we took the small grandsons to a village 'Children's Afternoon'; I must say it was total rubbish. Today we shall play Snakes and Ladders with them, it's their favourite game.

I have another good thing for you...you won the book "Honoring Your Ancestors!"

When you have some time (after the yummy margaritas wear off) pop me an email (rueandhyssop AT gmail DOT com) with your mailing address and I'll get your book out to you this week! Thanks for playing along with me this month, too!

  13. Were there ANY men at the "Downton Abbey" screening? When Shirley asked me if I wanted to see it I said that I would rather slit my wrists!

  14. Jennifer, I am afraid that I have been so busy with my life that I've not blogged or checked the blogs I have followed for a good while. I am getting back into writing and reading and I have just spent a few minutes reading your last entries. When I read about ginger, tears welled up in my eyes because I so understand how important a dog is in a family. I don't know what I'll do when Murphy passes, but I do know that I will be extremely upset. He has been with me through some very tough times. As a matter of fact, he's sitting here with me now as I type this. I am glad to hear that Ginger is recovering.

    1. Thank you Michael. This lovely comment made ME tear up! I'm afraid I haven't been great about reading blogs or commenting myself, lately. Sometimes life gets in the way. I understand and hope you're doing well! ❤❤❤
