Hospital waiting rooms....(updated)

My dad had another life threatening health event yesterday. He's been in the hospital three times in the past month. Yesterday his heart rate was way, way out of control (180 beats per minute) and after 3 injections failed to slow it down, they had to resort to electric shock to his heart to restore a normal rhythm. Then they transported him here to Florence from the little community hospital ER he was at.

Right now I'm with my mom in a waiting area while they do a heart and lung catheterization. We'll see what that shows. I hate waiting in hospitals....there's been a lot of it in my life over the last 10 years.

    I'm so sorry. I hope they can figure this out quickly.
    And yes- no matter what they do to hospital waiting rooms to make them cheerier, they are always and ever will be places of deep stress and worry.

    Oh no, I'm sorry to hear about this. I hope the catheterization will show what is causing this and lead to a solution. My husband had a heart catheterization and they put a stent in that made a big difference. Your Dad, you and your family are in my thoughts.

    I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Fingers crossed that all works out well. Dave recently had an accelerated heart rate too, and we're still not sure why -- we think it might have been medication-related. In any case, I'm thinking of you!

    and what's with the tv blaring inane vapid boring garbage; I despise that crap!

    does you dad have a pacemaker; my husband does. husband has had catheterization too.

    Oh, I am so sorry, Jennifer. I know how hard that waiting can be. Try to stay positive and know that they made the right decision in taking your dad to a larger hospital that has the staff and facilities that can address his problems better.

    Here in Harrisburg, they let you go back with the patient, unless they're performing a procedure. Hope things work out for the best. Does he have a pacemaker?

    I'm too tired to do another post so I'll just update with a comment. Dad is still in the hospital. He doesn't have blockages, but he does have heart failure and a very weak heart muscle. They've fitted him with a defibrillator vest to be worn 24/7 until they see if he's going to have a pacemaker put in. With the "life vest" he will get an electric shock to save his life if his heart gets dangerously out of rhythm. It's awfully complicated and I think both of my parents are completely overwhelmed at this point.

    I'm sorry your Dad, you, and your family are going through all of this. Waiting rooms are miserable places to be. I hope you and your mom can get some rest and that your dad will be better soon.
