Running free

We had to say goodbye to our beautiful Ginger this morning. She went gently, peacefully, with her two humans beside her stroking her soft fur and letting her know how very loved she was (is).

And now, I like to imagine that she's running free in the countryside where she was born, with her old pal Charlie by her side.

The best friends, Ginger and Charlie, years ago. I hope they're together again now.

Rest well, my sweet girl. There will never be another like you. We love you so much, and we always will.

Farewell Ginger. I feel like I knew her. She's been around "Sparrow Tree Journal" all the time I have been coming here. She has no pain now.

I know that there are really no words that will offer comfort so I'll just say that you and Gregg did the very best thing for Ginger. Not just in letting her go but in the way you loved her during her life. May there be peace.

Beautiful Ginger is running free with her friend Charlie. You and Gregg loved her and she loved you back.
I am sure Bernie, Samantha, Kirby, Watson and thehamish were all there to welcome her.

No platitudes
But this poem bykipling

THERE is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find - it's your own affair, -
But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!),
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone - wherever it goes - for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear!

We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent,
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve;
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long -
So why in - Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

So sorry Jennifer. ( and Gregg of course). I agree with Cro....I put a "grinning" photo of my dog Dillon in the hall, where I saw it whenever I passed through/came in the door. It made me smile a little through the grief.Thinking of you..in some ways the worst is over!XX

I am so sorry. I lost my wonderful Emmitt last week, it had reached a point where he could not get up unaided and the final day refused to even try. I took it to be his decision. I am in tears for both you and I as I write this. Huggs Peter
