At long last, only one more day!

It's been a long exhausting four years, but as of noon tomorrow we will finally have a new president! I can't tell you how happy I am to see the Trump years draw to a close. Of course I know it won't be all sunshine and rainbows, and that the cult 45 people are still out there and causing trouble, and the pandemic is raging, and there are still many, many, evil and corrupt politicians who enabled Trump and his ilk who will do it again as soon as they see half a chance. I know all too well how much trouble this country is in at the moment no matter who the president is.

But damn, it still feels good to know that this dark chapter in our history is finally about to be over. I wanted to do a little dance when I saw footage of the moving trucks being packed at the White House. What a relief after the fear and stress of the past four years.

It's sad to see the military presence required for tomorrow's inauguration, but unlike my husband, I don't think Biden and  Harris should be quietly sworn in in a room somewhere and all public events canceled. F*** that. To me, any concession to lunatics and rioters and insurrectionists is a mistake. Period. I don't care how much military and National Guard protection it takes to make the event safe, this is America and damn it, our newest President and Vice President deserve all the same pomp and ceremony as any other! Mind you, if it were just a matter of being safe during a pandemic, I would be all for a scaled down ceremony. But to appease domestic terrorists? No.

I'm glad I'll be working from home tomorrow and can watch the coverage of the inauguration! I plan to pick up a bottle of champagne to open as soon as I sign off work at 4:30. I'm going to make two desserts tomorrow night as a further celebration: apple pie for America, and peach cobbler for the great state of Georgia that helped us win the presidency and take back control of the Senate! Although nothing will magically change overnight when 45 leaves office, I hope we're turning a corner and headed for better days in this country.

  1. I remember 4 years ago how saddened we were as we wore our pink hats and marched. It seemed impossible that this horrid man would be running our country. And we were right - he was worse than terrible.
So a new administration brings us a new day and new hope for "liberty and justice for all"! Peace!

    2. Same, Bob! Same! And MM, I was pretty devastated when dump won, too, but in my wildest dreams I never thought it would be as bad as it turned out to be.

We have mere hours left, guys. Hours! Tomorrow will be a GOOD day.

    1. I wonder how long it will take Melania to file for divorce? Every time I see her with her husband she looks miserable. And who wouldn't be? Not that I have any sympathy for her. She knew exactly what she was getting when she married that monster.

  4. For me here in Germany, live broadcast of the inauguration starts around 6:00 pm - work should be finished then for the day, and if I say pretty please, may I have a bit of both your desserts? I can bring my own glass, and will help you with the champagne... ;-)

    1. I wish you could have a piece of both my desserts!!!!! And I have a crock pot filled with vegetarian chili that we'll be eating all week--it's really good, if I do say so myself. I wish you could come over for dinner and dessert!

  5. I literally just had the thought a few minutes ago- by this time tomorrow Joe Biden will be president.
And you can bet I'm going to watch it.

  6. I loved this post! So filled with hope. I also love how you'll make an apple pie and a peach cobbler. I knew it would be a bad four years, but I never imagined this. Good riddance. And you are right, our problems aren't all solved, but now there is HOPE.

  7. I applaud every one of your overtures to America, and Georgia. This time tomorrow...

  8. Supposedly, Melania has no interest in divorcing "it." People who are supposed to know say she parrots everything he says (no offense intended, Marco). A very well-written post.

    Love,

    1. Ah, but Donald might be ready for wife #4 by now. Surely Melania is past her "use by" date already!

  9. I do hope his supporters don't go crazy. I heard some of his departure speech this morning, anyone would think he'd 'made America great again'.... I think not.

  10. Jennifer I am so excited for tomorrow! I can't wait to see us finally get a real President again. Your choices of desserts for tomorrow could not be more perfect. Enjoy the celebration - we have all earned it after the last four years!

  11. I woke up this morning and was again frustrated that we're 6 hours ahead of DC. I wanted the traitor to be gone already. Instead of flying him to Florida this morning, they should just fly him directly to prison.

    1. Of course. Maybe some of them will come around and cooler heads will start to prevail now that 45 is gone (and off social media).

    2. I think that taking away his twitter account will change things up a LOT. Did you see that the lawyers for some of the capitol hill rioters are using 'Trump incited them' as a defense. I think it is beginning to fall apart.

  14. Thank goodness the US finally has a new President and the craziness of the last four years is finally over. Of course he won't solve every problem, but he'll put the country on the right path again. I'm glad for all my American friends who were terrified Trump would be back for another term.
