I don't like having yesterday's post as the most current one on my blog. We can all get enough of the news elsewhere (and likely you're all as sick of it as I am) so I decided to kick off the weekend with a happier post.
First of all, I wanted to show you the beautiful holiday cards I got this year. I couldn't bear to put them away with the rest of the Christmas stuff at the end of December. I also kept out some fairy lights that I put around them so that they'd glow and sparkle at night.
Next, here's something else that's making me happy. My orchids and my Christmas cactus are blooming. The orchids are my favorite.
The weather has been wet and cold this week. On Wednesday morning while working from home I started a crockpot of homemade vegetable beef soup and let it simmer all day. It's been our supper for the past two nights, and it's maybe one of the best batches of soup I've ever made. Delicious, and just the thing for the kind of weather we've been having. This is comfort food at its best.
Last of all, this sweet boy. He loves basking in sunshine as much as any cat. On bright days he follows the sun through the house and parks himself wherever he can soak up a few rays. This was early yesterday morning.

Your George and my Sammy could be related--they look very much alike. Sammy likes the sunshine, too, but will not 'do' rain...or baths...or anything related to water other than an occasional drink of the stuff. :)

DeleteHa! Four WWF wrestlers couldn't get Sammy near a bath, much less in one. Our neighbor is a groomer and she is the only one he allows to trim his nails, brush his teeth and give him a DRY shampoo 'bath' and only because he adores her. :)

DeleteYour soup looks delicious. My hound Thoreau (long dead and still missed) used to follow the sunbeams in the house so he could soak up the warmth. When I went to bed, he'd hop in with me and growl at X when he tried to join us. He was a smart dog.

DeleteI have left some of those tiny lights... they are wrapped round three white orchids....(the short variety with small flowers)and yesterday I found another set in a drawer, put new batteries in and now have more lights on the shelf above round the plants there .So pretty in the evening!

Aaw, sweet George basking in the sun... we‘ve not had a sunny day in what feels like weeks.
O.K. and I are spending the weekend at my place, enough reason to be happy! And to top it, it is my sister‘s birthday tomorrow. Because of the lockdown restrictions, there will only be the two of us sharing a bottle of sparkling wine with her over a late breakfast at her place, but it will still be a special occasion.
That sounds like a nice birthday celebration. Sometimes simple is good!
