Morning Misadventures

Do you ever have mornings where everything seems to go just right? Where you wake up feeling rested, your morning routine goes smoothly, and it seems like your day is getting off to a great start?

That was me this morning. Gregg leaves super early on Thursdays to receive a fish shipment at the pet store, so I had the house all to myself. I drank a leisurely cup or two of coffee while reading blogs, ate a bowl of cereal, and fed George and Marco. I took a nice long shower and put on one of my favorite outfits. I packed myself a nice, healthy lunch to take along, and still had a few extra minutes to tidy up the house a little before leaving. I was even having a good hair day! I felt so nice and put-together for once. On top of things. A professional woman going out to seize the day!

Just as I was about to head out the door, I grabbed a travel mug and poured myself the last cup of coffee to take along to the office. It would be a pity to let good coffee go to waste, right? Right. Feeling on top of the world, I went out to the garage, opened my car door, and sat down in the driver's seat......

......and the lid of the travel mug I was holding came off in my hand and the entire 12 ounces of blazing hot coffee dropped into my lap, bounced, and ended up at my feet. Coffee went everywhere. Everywhere. It splashed my face, left arm, the steering wheel, the windshield, the dashboard, and drenched my clothes. I was too stunned to move for few seconds.*  And then (sorry Weaver!) I cursed and swore like a sailor! It was like a coffee bomb had gone off in my car! When I called the principal to tell him I'd be late, coffee was dripping from the tip of my nose. It was almost surreal. So much for my morning getting off to a lovely start!

I ended up thirty minutes late to work, smelling faintly of dark brew.

*I was lucky in that I only had some stinging on my bare arm that got the brunt of the deluge. No serious burns.

And things were going SO well up until then . . . . Glad you didn't get burned by the hot coffee though!

Haha! Yes! I was hoping you would get a laugh out of it. Just my damn luck!

Isn't that how things seem to be going these days? Great one moment, and the next? The lid pops off. Did you tell them at work you were just a member of the brew crew?

And it's so disappointing to lose a whole cup of coffee like that!

Jennifer said...

The Brew Crew! Good one!

Jennifer said...

That too!

Well, damn. Just when everything was going so smoothly. And isn't that life?

Once my youngest daughter stumbled and the coffee in the cup she was carrying went straight up, in one unit, like a bullet, and left a large stain on the ceiling as well as drenching her when it came down all over the carpet. Wiping her eyes she said "Someday, Mom, we'll laugh about this!"

Oh dear, and suddenly you were down back on earth again.

Oh no Jennifer! That is why when things are going too smoothly, I get a little nervous. I've been there and it is always when you have a deadline for work or an appointment!

I thought along the same lines as Joanne Noragon's daughter (before I read her comment, of course) and was wondering whether by now you'd be able to laugh about it. Imagine it as a scene in a film - it would be the comical element, seeing the heroine brought down to earth like that... with a splash!

Seriously, I am sorry your day didn't go on as smoothly as it had begun, and I am glad to know you didn't come to more physical harm.

Well, on the bright side, you could have smelled of something much worst. At least Eau de Coffee is pleasant.

I once spilled tuna fish juice down me. I told everyone it was my new cologne called Diving Buddy. Meanwhile every cat in the hood was following me......

Oh dear, sometimes that's just how life goes! At least you didn't cause yourself any lasting harm.

And what you said about a day starting out well...DD just called on her way from work heading to GS's school--7 days into the school year and my 7 yr old GS has quarantine for 10 days. No virtual schooling this time. Just packets of work to do. Mom will be full time WFH again. Fortunately, she is able to do so.

You are forgiven. Glad you weren't scalded.

What a disaster. You were lucky not to have any nasty burns.

OH NO!!! I'm glad you didn't get burned, but still -- what a miserable start to the day. :(

It was actually pretty funny once I got to work and recounted what had happened a few times! I knew right away I'd have to blog about it!

Jennifer said...

You're right about that! My arm stung a little but otherwise I was okay.

Jennifer said...

They sure were!

Jennifer said...

I wish I had a photo of myself, sitting there dripping right after it had happened! LOL.

Jennifer said...

I'm sure you've had similar moments, John!

Jennifer said...

Me too! I didn't consider until later how bad it could have been!

Jennifer said...

I said shit and fuck and a few other choice words, Mitchell! Ha!

Jennifer said...

Ewwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tuna juice! Lol @ the cats in the hood!

Jennifer said...

That was my one consolation!

Jennifer said...

I thought it was hilarious about 10 minutes after it happened! :)

Jennifer said...

I should have known some trouble was brewing!

Jennifer said...

Exactly! Back to my old self! :)

Jennifer said...

I'll bet you've all laughed about it ever since!

Jennifer said...

It sure is!

Your day started on such a lovely note, only to have a messy hot wake up call. I am glad you were not burned. Coffee dripping down your nose, now that is a sad picture.

Sorry, just catching up on my blogging. Damn, sounds like something that'd happen to me. Good thing you weren't burned. Sure made for a great story this morning, but don't worry, I'm not laughing!
