Rain dance

It's been so terribly hot and dry here lately. I heard on the radio the other day that most of the state is experiencing mild to moderate drought conditions. Not only has there been very little rain this summer, but it's been incredibly hot for days on end, more than once. Today it got up to 101 degrees with high humidity outside....it doesn't get much more miserable than that.

Driving home from work this afternoon I heard about a chance of severe thunderstorms in the upstate. Despite the fact that we're east of that, the sky is turning dark as I type this. Oh please, oh please, let it rain tonight! It's hot in our house since the a/c is having a hard time keeping up again. I'm sweating as I type this. The grass has turned to dust outside and the late summer flowers seem to be fading fast. I'm so ready for fall....but a good hard rainstorm would be such a relief in the meantime!

My mom swears that one of my great grandfathers on her side was over half Native American. Do you think if I go outside and dance it would help matters? If I thought it would.....I would!

  1. I doubt it would but what harm in trying? At least you could say you'd done your part.
Seriously- this is some awful weather.

  4. When the first monsoons rain comes after the month of plus 110 temps I alway go outside and stand in the rain. Don't know if it helps but go out and dance. It can't hurt !

  5. Over here we've had our downpour, and it's now considerably cooler with even a few mushrooms about.

  6. I hope you get (got?) some rain. It couldn't HURT to dance, I suppose, whether you're part Native American or not!

  7. I hope that you got your rain. It is 8.30am here ( Harpenden) as I type and the rain is just starting. We are promised quite a lot of rain today.....I shall have a wet dog ! Thank goodness the temperatures have lowered recently from the 30c ( 86F) we had a few weeks ago. I was wilting in that so can't imagine how 101 feels!

  9. Yes. That rain dance would definitely work but wearing clothes would hinder the magic and you would need to wear a feathered headdress - "Hey Marco! Where are you?"

  10. All the rain came up north to us. So did the heat. A thunderstorm just ended and more scattered storms expected today. If is almost a daily forecast, and it is accompanied by the a heat wave. I never thought that I would long for Autumn. I hope you get some rain soon.

  11. It has been an odd, dry summer in Central Florida as well. So hot we have not gone biking in too long. By all means, dance!

  12. Thankfully, this year was not a 1:1 repeat of last year's way too dry summer in my area. Groundwater levels have still not recovered from that, but we have experienced only relatively short bouts of extremely hot, dry weather.
I hope at least some rain has come your way in the meantime.

  13. I don't know if it will help or not, but the neighbors might enjoy it... well, except for the turd next door.
