Flowers and showers

In the comments on my last post, Steve asked me to show a picture of my blooming Christmas cactus. I had mentioned it but didn't share a photo at the time because I didn't have a good one. Here is a photo of of it alongside my blooming orchids. I'm also throwing in pictures of the two smaller orchids that I took yesterday.

Flowers really brighten up the house when the weather outside is cold and gray!

For the rest of you who love Marco stories and Marco pictures, I snapped some of him fresh from the shower the other day. He loves to shower with me and then he loves getting blow dried afterwards!

  1. Marco is the most dear parrot in the world right now! I LOVE him. I miss my birds but I do not miss my birds, pretty sure you know what I mean...

    1. Oh boy, do I EVER know what you mean! As funny and sweet and cute as Marco is, only someone who has kept birds (especially parrots) can really understand what a pain in the butt they can be, too!

Carlos has Christmas Cacti, too, and they're so pretty when they bloom.

  3. Your flowers are lovely and surely brighten up your home. I did not know that parrots liked to shower with their humans! Learn something new every day! Thanks for the happy post, Jennifer!

    1. Thanks Ellen! I know that most parrots love baths and need them. Taking Marco into the shower with me is the easiest way to give him one without making a mess (water everywhere). He normally perches on the shower rod and sometimes he wants to get wet, sometimes not.

  4. Marco sure is living the life! What a lucky bird he is. I wish he was more aware of that fact.
Your flowers DO very much brighten up your home. They're so lovely.

  8. I love your Christmas cactus and orchids. Is the cactus red or orange? (colors can look different on different computers) I have only recently been seeing so many different colors of them and some that are called an Easter cactus. That is all new to me as I had previously only seen Christmas cactus in red, pink and white.

Those pictures of Marco are great! I can see him taking a shower but I am surprised he is not scared of the hair dryer. He is such a human like bird!

    1. I guess he's been around me drying my hair for 13 years now so no wonder he's not afraid of the dryer! Actually, he likes the warm air. He'll hold his wings out so I can dry underneath them. :)

    1. We've had almost nothing but gloomy days lately! But alas, no snow. Just chilly rain here and there.

  11. I am just learning that amaryllis can live longer than we do. I wonder how long orchids live. I had one almost ten years, and then its leaves fell off, one by one, and there was no more orchid.

    1. Well, ten years is a good long life for a houseplant!

  12. Marco looks so different with wet feathers. It never occurred to me that a bird would hop in the shower with his person.

    1. Birds love to take baths, one way or another. And it's important to keep their feathers in good condition!

  14. I think you mentioned before that Marco loves to join you in the shower! What fun, to blow-dry him afterwards and all that!

Your flowers are beautiful. I have two potted orchids in my flat; one of them did have blossoms all through November and December and then shed them, but only yesterday, a new one opened. The other one was struggling a bit after I left it out on the windowsill during a night that turned out colder than I expected, but it is recovering and shows new leaves and a new stem.
