How we fared

Here's how I prepared for last night's freeze:

This morning when we got up it was 23 degrees outside! I'm pleased to say that my plants were almost completely unscathed despite the bitter cold. The only loss was a few leaves on the fig tree (over where you can see a few leaves peeking out from the cardboard) but the majority of them were fine. The salad garden looked green and cheerful when I pulled back the tarp this morning, too. Tonight it's supposed to get just to freezing again, so I've covered everything back up now that the sun is going down.

One last thing....why, why, why must we continue to observe Daylight Savings Time?! I hate changing the time both times we do it in a year. I wish the powers that be would just pick one or the other and leave well enough alone!

  1. That tarp was smart. We had the same storm and they covered the plants in our garden center with plastic.

    1. The winds here didn't get as strong as they predicted. The cold was worse, though. 23 degrees!

  3. agree about daylight savings time- we get into a groove and them WHAM an hour is jerked away! Your plants look well pleased- especially the one with the cardboard house. Very nice!

  4. Your plants are happy to be living in your garden, all snugly tucked up in bed. I agree about daylight savings, it is very annoying.

  5. Good job in protecting your plants. I'm sure they appreciate you taking care of them! I'm with you on daylight savings time. Every year they talk about stopping it but nothing ever happens.

  6. Well done! I must have gotten something wrong in your last post, I was thinking you were under threat of a storm.
I so agree about changing the clocks! It has been proven over the past decades that it does not really do anything, other than confuse and bother animals and humans alike.

    1. We were under tornado watches because of the high winds and cold front moving in, so we were kind of under threat of a storm.

I got your pretty card on Saturday! Thank you! I'm very late mailing yours, but it's on your way. :)

  7. For years, the European Union has been saying this might be the last year of clock changes. Maybe this year? Good job on preparing for the storm. The house with the cathedral ceiling and chainlink fence for the fig tree is a classic.

    1. Cathedral ceiling! Chain link fence! Hahaha! Good one, Mitchell. I was just piecing together whatever I could find for the fig tree.

  8. Clock changing is ridiculous. We have to do that twice a year in Great Britain too. As well as the pointless pain of having to change clocks and watches, the dumb process upsets people's natural rhythms.

I was at home watching tv and I heard what sounded like a Bengal Tiger trying to rip it's way into the house..brave me jumped up and ran to door(ok, I walked fast) and hail the size of walnuts and some the size of golf balls were banging off my porch the side walk and all the cars in the parking lot..out of no where...it eventually turned into rain and then that stopped and sun came out..fucking menopausal Texas...
