Yesterday when I had coffee at Paulette's house, I finally got to spend some time with her sweet new dog. This is Pixie:
I've had cats that were bigger and heavier than Pixie! She's teeny-tiny, and unlike so many small dogs, she never barks and isn't mean. In fact, she's very gentle and eager to be petted. I liked her a lot. But it's funny how living with my two 60+ pound ruffians make her seem like some creature other than a dog, you know?
Here's another thing that happened the morning I had to go to jury duty. I got a private Facebook message (very early) from the mother of two of the little kids that have made friends with me at work. It said, "A-- and E-- have a surprise for you today!" I responded that unfortunately I wasn't going to be there and explained why. She said, "No!! Tell them you can't have jury duty! Your babies at school need you!" That really made me smile. Then when I got back to work yesterday, the kids had brought their surprise for me: homemade chocolate chip cookies! Their mom had helped them bake them on Sunday. It was the sweetest thing ever.
I shared this photo with mom yesterday afternoon and thanked her. She said they wanted to do something for me because I'm always so kind to the children. How nice was that?

DeleteI like big dogs. Small dogs become toys, and I don't want a toy.
ReplyDeleteSame. Even medium size dogs are okay with me but usually I just feel sorry for little yapping "purse dogs".
DeleteAren't those children wonderful! And so is their mom and their school mom.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy those kids. They stop by my office when they arrive in the morning, talk to me for a few minutes, give me hugs, and then run off to class. It's the perfect amount of kid time, and no responsibility!

Purse puppies aren't my favorite, I'll admit. I like a sturdy dog that hasn't had all the "dog-ness" bred out of them!

I'm glad to have these little friends, because in my role as secretary and bookkeeper I don't have all that much interaction with most of the students. I'm mostly tucked away in my office all day.
DeletePixie is very cute, but to me, too, she seems like some other sweet little creature, not a "real" dog :-)

Exactly! Pixie seems like an entirely different animal than a dog, but she sure is nice.
DeleteI’m not usually a fan of purse puppies because of the yippy/nippiness. Nice when they break the mold. It says a lot that the kids in your schools so often fall in love with you!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the kids (since I have no real responsibility for them) and take an interest in them. Kids respond to that.
DeleteI have never had a small dog. I usually find them to be aggressive and a bit nippy. But there are exceptions to every rule, and it looks like you found an exception! I am so glad that you are thriving in this job. When I first taught, it was in an elementary school and it was such a welcoming place. It sounds as if you have found that place too, and you are a big part of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael! I really love it there. I was worried at first about the bookkeeping aspect of it, but that has proven to be not very hard. I'm very lucky to be so happy at my job.
DeleteOf course, students should bring you cookies! You are so nice! It is nice that they notice. My daughter has a big dog and her boyfriend has a little dog and now that they all live together, it surprises me how well the dogs get along. They play like crazy and Sofie, the Australian Shepherd, never hurts, Dewey, the mini dachshund! Dewey thinks he's the boss! ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Lots of times little dogs are the boss of bigger, more gentle dogs. I think it's cute when such different sizes of dogs are best friends.

ReplyDeleteOf course I didn't! I ate one or two and let Gregg have the rest. I'm feeling so much better with the weight I've lost so far (25 pounds) that I'm very careful about sugary treats. But the kids don't need to know that!
