It's time!

December is here!

For the first time in years, I'm actually excited about celebrating the holidays. There's only two more weeks of school before our winter break and then I have two weeks off!! Our last day is Friday, December 15th, which is a half day for the students. Once the kids leave, we're having our staff Christmas party, and after that I won't have to go back to work until January 2!! I'm really excited to be getting a long holiday break for the first time in my adult life, especially after 17 years of working in retail.

The holiday fun has already started at the school. There's a giant 12-foot Christmas tree in the lobby, a smaller (but still big) tree in the library, and, as you can see, huge sparkling wreaths on the front doors. We're adopting four families of children through DSS and buying gifts for them, which is a really nice thing to do and something I'm happy to participate in. Several offices are decorated with tiny trees, garlands, and strings of lights. I'm planning to add some decorations to my desk next week, and I'll post a few pictures of it when I do.

At home, we've decided to finally buy a pre lit Christmas tree this year. That's what I'm planning to do this morning--go pick out and buy a tree. Tomorrow while I have the house all to myself I'm going to spend the day putting up the tree and decorating the rest of the house for the holidays. Now that we're into the month of December, it feels like it's time!

What about you? When (and how much) do you decorate for the holidays?

  2. You DESERVE a good, long Christmas break. Good for you!
As to decorating? Oh Lord. I might get out the bad santa this year. I might not. We shall see.

    1. All those adorable babies at your house ought to make Christmas especially festive, right? I would enjoy spoiling those kids rotten!

  3. I'm minimal with Christmas decorations because with the wood burner they just get so dusty and I hate the chore of taking them down again

    1. I can understand that. And I hate taking down decorations, too.

  4. We display all our many Christmas cards and we will also have a decorated tree but not yet. That can wait till a few days before Christmas. We also have a big illuminated Santa with a light bulb up his bum. I might put him up again this year.

  5. I'm happy for you. You deserve to enjoy Christmas. I put up my tree and a few other decorations. My back started complaining so I knew when it was time to stop.

    Love,
    Janie

  6. Christmas is so much better when it includes some time off before and after. Enjoy and make merry because you can sleep in on those holiday mornings.

I got the tree up and The Retired Man did some lights outside. It is less than other years but it does look nice. We are cutting back because although it is fun to decorate, it isn’t fun to take it down.

  7. A little early for us yet. I cut down, and decorate, our tree round about the 20th. I'm also looking forward to it all this year; not usually the case.

  8. This reminds me that our school library Christmas tree hasn't arrived yet. Hmmm....

We don't normally decorate a whole lot, but then, we're usually gone at Christmas. This year will be different because we're staying put. So stay tuned!

  9. I am so happy for you. What a major treat after all these years. Winter break! We used to have 10 giant Rubbermaid Tubs of Christmas decorations. We honed it down to 2 before leaving the States. I loved to put everything out, but haven't done anything at all yet this year. Maybe this week (but I still don't know).

  10. Your excitement really shines through this post, Jennifer! I will probably have two weeks off, too; the week between Christmas and New Year and the first week of January. All our customers will be on holiday, so it is no use for us to work - plus we can really do with a break, this year was VERY busy (in a good way).
As I was away all weekend (at O.K.'s) and returned home shortly before 11:00 pm last night, I have not yet put up any Christmas decoration.
