Thursday night weather update

Ways to call in snow, according to my 8-year-old buddy, Little P.:

*Wear your pajamas inside out for a couple of nights.

*Flush ice cubes down the toilet the day before.

*Sleep with a spoon under your bed.

It may be working, because he reported to me this afternoon that he's been doing all of these things, and now the forecast is calling for the possibility of an inch of snow after the ice does its thing. I hope we get a little snow, for his sake.

In any event, there's a very good chance we could lose power and/or internet access for a couple of days. Not only are we expecting ice and snow, but the nighttime low temperatures are expected to be around 19 degrees (-7.22C) and the highs will struggle to get much above freezing. Whatever cold precipitation we get, won't be going away very fast!

My little family will be just fine. We have gas logs for heat, a gas range for cooking, plenty of food (people and pet), and no need to leave home. If it wasn't so dangerous for the essential workers, I'd even say I'm looking forward to it. Real winter weather is such a rarity in eastern South Carolina! I'm hoping to finally see snow here at our "new" house and "new" neighborhood.

Maybe I should flush some ice down the toilet......or sleep with my pjs inside-out. Little P. is convinced it will work!

  3. We had that in December and it stuck around too long. It had worn out its welcome after a couple days! (especially the ice!) Hope you enjoy some quiet and cozy time.

  4. We lost power during the last storm for about 40 minutes, but other folks in our twon went without power for more than a day!
Hopefully this one will be less bothersome.

  5. Don't forget to take lots of photos for your 2022 Christmas cards! No snow here, and temps around 0 - 10 C.

  6. Just a light (and rather wet) dusting here over night, and rain forecast for tomorrow. So far, we have not had much of a winter - fine by me, but I know some plants and animals need proper winter for their life cycles.
Anyway, maybe I should advise my family, friends and neighbours on the PJ, ice cube and spoon methods!

  7. We are getting overnight frosts and decidedly chilly morning dog walks here in SE England.Dog coats will be the order of the day again! We have an extra dog at the moment so it takes a while for us all to get togged up! No thank you to snow!

  8. Just flushed the ice cubes, have placed a spoon under the bed for tonight when I’ll wear PJs (I don’t usually) inside out. Snow on the Costa del Sol! Thank Little P for me.

  9. Little P. is the best. Educating the world, one spoon-under-the-bed at a time!

  12. Little P is quite determined. I hope he got his snow. We got 12 inches, and believe you me, not one of us was wearing our pjs inside out.
