A coincidence, and a blast from the past

Last night I dreamed I was back in high school, and I was hanging out with my friend Trey. We were at the grocery store, picking out snacks because he was coming over to spend the night at my house. We were making plans to stay up late and watch scary movies.

As soon as I woke up and took a shower, I sat down in front of my computer with a cup of coffee and opened up Facebook. And would you believe it? Trey had sent me a private message with a picture of the two of us in high school that he found recently! CRAZY.

Baby Trey and Baby Jennifer, circa 1989. We were freshmen in high school.

We're still good friends all these years later. We met in kindergarten and now we're both on the verge of 50 years old.

    2. What do you see when you look at this photo? We are so hard on ourselves.

    3. Oh, now I see a perfectly adorable teen girl. I just didn't feel that was AT ALL at the time.

  4. Some coincidences have purpose, I learned that a long time ago.

    1. I've been meaning to get together with Trey. It's been too long since we've spent in person time together.

  5. I do believe that we humans have senses that science hasn't figured out yet. Things like that happen rather more frequently than we realize. People want to attribute them to some sort of woo-woo powers but I think we'll have answers about them someday.
    You were so darling.

    1. I wish I could go back in time and talk to myself. Life was hard for me in those days, in ways I didn't even fully understand until much later.

  6. That's lovely! You were beautiful then, and you are beautiful now. There's nothing like friendships that go way back, as my sister and I found confirmed once again when we met up with our "other halves" (two pairs of sisters, inseparable for most of our childhood and all our teenage years). The title "Blast from the Past" would have fitted my current post, too :-)

    1. Thank you, Ellen. I wish I hadn't wasted my teenage years feeling fat, ugly, and awkward. I look at old photos now and realize there was nothing wrong with me and I feel sad for that girl.

    1. When I think of all the blow drying, teasing, perms, and oh my god THE HAIRSPRAY it took to get that "look"..... lol!

  9. That's eerie! Long standing friendships are the best. We know each other's back stories and understand our life histories.

    1. Trey and some of the other friends I grew up with in that time and that place understand me in ways no one else ever will. I treasure the few friendships that remain, all these years later.

  10. How funny to get that picture, out of the blue, all these years later. You have the hair that everyone wanted, back in the day. Now we look at it and wonder why? Very labor intensive to achieve that style.

    1. Labor intensive not to mention all the hairspray!

  11. Wow! That IS an amazing coincidence. Great photo. You definitely had the '80s look, like maybe you're headed to a Bananarama concert. :)

  12. That is indeed a spooky co-incidence. I don't remember you mentioning Trey before but my memory is like a colander. It's great that you are still in touch with him. Why did you make signs like that with your fingers? Were you in The Scouts?

    1. I honestly have no idea what we were doing with our fingers! Teenage weirdness from 35 years ago, I guess.
