The backyard pond today

A tiny spider has spun her web around a flowering pickerel plant in our container pond. Can you see it?

Under the surface, the pair of  wild bream are making themselves at home, too. There are about two dozen baby fish in there!

We have a big fat yellow striped spider that makes a similar web (with that long white bit in the middle). It's called something like 'the common garden spider', but I only see them very rarely; beautiful creatures.

A big black spider lives outside of my bathroom window. It makes a large circular web all across the window, and I don't have the heart to destroy it. Sometimes wind and rain will tear it apart, but most of the time, within a day or two, a fresh web is back in place. I haven't seen it in a few days now, so maybe the old spider is dead.

Love the bright colours of the photograph, looks almost like a painting.

I spotted the spider and have christened him Donald after Donald Rumsfeld. Not because of a similarity in appearance but comparable tactics.
