No rest in this house!

After a very late night at work (I didn't get home until after 11pm) I set my alarm to sleep as long as possible this morning. I have to be back at work at 11am, so I set my alarm for 9:30. That would give me time to drink a cup of coffee, shower, and drive there. I didn't make it to bed until almost 1am, since I can't go right to bed when I'm keyed up from work, but that should have still meant a little over 8 hours to rest. Right? Wrong!

First Marco started to screech for attention. He's usually pretty good about being quiet in the morning, but not today. I think when Gregg left for work he decided it was time for me to come uncover his cage and let him out. Then my jerk neighbor started up with his lawn mower. This is a guy who regularly runs his lawn mower, weed trimmer, and table saw at the crack of dawn. In the summer, when it got really hot by noon, I could kind of understand him wanting to get an early start on that kind of stuff, but not now that the weather is much more mild. And even in the summer, it's pretty inconsiderate to crank up power tools before 8am! I don't think he has a job, at least not one that he leaves his house for, and you'd think that after 6 years of living beside us he'd notice that I often get home very late at night. I think he just doesn't care. He's never been very considerate, and neither is his wife. They don't bother to speak or wave hello if we see them outside, even after several years of close proximity.

Oh well. At least I have time for an extra cup or two of coffee. I'm going to need it!

  2. Goodness, I guess you could ask him to please start work at maybe 9 am instead of so early as you work late. At least you could try ? Not sure if it would help.

    1. They're really weird people and I wouldn't feel comfortable talking to them about it. We won't live here forever; in fact we're finally starting to get serious about finding a house to buy. Gregg wanted to wait until he was cancer free for 5 years before we did it, and that will be this December! We have a down payment sitting in savings so we're ready except I'm hoping to find a new job, too, before we commit to a mortgage.

  3. Neighbours eh! We have had an unusually quiet month or so, and are just waiting for all the usual noise to start up again. My neighbour is just not happy unless he has about five building projects on the go, several large machines blocking our lane, and plenty of heavy machinery making dawn to dusk NOISE. I do make some noise myself, as I use a chainsaw, and have a couple of mowers; but nothing like next door.

    1. I thought of you and your irritating neighbors when I posted this!

  4. Everyone was woken at the crack of dawn yesterday when farmer's donkey started braying. Except me, being deaf has few advantages but this was one.

    1. It's interesting that you mention being deaf....I'm considering starting an ASL class next week that's being offered for free at a local library. I've been trying to get a job with a school or a school district office and I think it would look good on my resume.

  5. We have neighbours who are always cutting the grass on a ride-on mower. Neither of them work. Every evening the husband is outside mowing regardless of what day of the week it is or what time it is. We conclude that he doesn't actually like sitting indoors with his wife in the evenings. He could do it during the day - it is not too hot here to sit on a ride-on during the day. I went round to deliver a letter the other night and her first words were "have you come to complain about the mower?".

    1. "Have you come about the mower?" Haha! You should have said "that, too!" Ha.

Possibly he just enjoys it. Several years ago (before I started my blog) we rented a house out in the sticks that sat on 14 acres of land and had two small ponds. Gregg actually enjoyed taking the tractor out some times and mowing. But we didn't have neighbors close enough to annoy with it, either.

  6. We used to have a neighbor who mowed very late in the evening, even after it was dark. We would be in bed, windows open because we lived in a place where no one had air conditioning, and he'd be mowing away. Years later when my ex-husband's mania became worse, he wanted to mow the yard on Saturdays at 7 a.m. or even earlier. I said absolutely no mowing before 9 a.m. I didn't get home until about 11:30 last night. Penelope was so upset that she trembled. She's not accustomed to Mommy going out at night.

    Love,
    Janie
