Last night I had to work until 2:30am, the first of three late nights to complete our holiday set. The next two "overnights" will be Sunday and Monday of next week. It's a lot of hard work, and every year by the last night everyone is exhausted and desperate to finish. Our regional manager comes the day after the 300 or so projects are supposed to be completed, to tour the store and critique everything. There are only four of us working on this and responsible for it all. It's just the worst!
I promised myself last October that Christmas 2015 would be my last in retail, and that I wouldn't ever have to do another holiday set again. So much for that. In fact, I'm losing hope that a new beginning on the job front is destined to be part of 2016 for me. I'm still looking, but there's been nothing to even apply for lately. With the travesty of a presidential election going on, everyone (including employers, I'm sure) has been on edge. Whatever the reason, job openings seem to have dried right up for the time being. All I can do is continue to wait and try to be patient.
But I don't have to like it!!

I know you haven't found anything yet, but please don't lose hope. The economy really is improving. Willy Dunne Wooters, Favorite Young Man, and I think it will continue to do so.

That sounds exhausting; I hope they recompense you extremely well.

Sit in the lotus position with eyes closed and hum continuously...for about ten minutes each day. Then when you get up the world will seem more beautiful and your job will appear like just another part of life's rich tapestry... And if you believe that you're a banana!
I hope you get paid by the hour (and are eligible for overtime pay) instead of being on an annual salary.
Hi Jennifer, maybe January 2017 will be the month of a new job and a new start for you. Hang on, it sounds very tough; I could not stay up til 2:30 a.m. I put on link to your blog on my post today for your book recommendation.
I think that if (hopefully when) Donald Trump goes away, everyone will breathe a sigh of relief and get on with things. 2016 has been a weird year.

Only moderately well, but I'm thankful for what I get!
The worst part is the always shifting hours. Overnights are until after 2am, but before long I'll have an opening shift where I have to go in at 7:30am. It's ridiculous!

I do get paid by the hour, and while they do everything they can to avoid making anyone work overtime, if I do then I get time and a half.
2016 has been weird and unpleasant from the beginning. I think 2017 will be a much better year!
