Ruth Bader Ginsburg has passed away, and I, along with thousands of others, am mourning this giant of a woman, this hero for Equality, this American icon. There will never be another like her. What a devastating loss for our country.
May her memory be a blessing. May her passing inspire new generations of women and men to stand up and fight for Justice and Truth. May she rest in Peace.
Amen to everything you have said. She fought hard the past few years just to stay alive despite her cancer and I believe her fight was for all of us. Yes, may she inspire new generations and may she rest in well deserved peace.

ReplyDeleteI found my first job in an ad in the newspaper under “Help Wanted Female” in the mid 60’s. It was a large company and woman were hired only as clerks and secretaries, no matter their education. All that mattered was how fast we could type. Promotions were only for men and the highest title a woman could have at this corporation was Assistant Supervisor. After five years, I got that title. I then trained a young man with no experience to be my boss. When I got married and pregnant, I had to report to the company doctor who asked me all kinds of personal questions and told me when my last day of work would be. Pregnant women were “allowed” to stay only until their pregnancy became obvious. I tried to get my first credit card but was denied unless my husband’s name was also on it. My husband and I have the same number of years of higher education and I was employed, except for four years when I was out of the workforce having children, and I earned half of what he made which is reflected in my social security check now.
My daughters’ lives are so different than mine because of the strong woman who have fought for our rights and dignity. RBG was one of the greatest of all. I am so afraid now, that those rights will be taken away by this monster in chief.
I understand so well what you say here because I have been there and yes, my social security check is less than half of my husband's check even though I worked just as long and hard as he did. There was no equality for women. I pray for more people to follow in RBG's footsteps for our children and their children.
DeleteI heard the news live on the radio, but at the time her name meant nothing to me. Later in the day they outlined her story... and what a story. We all need women like her in lofty positions. RIP.
ReplyDeleteEven before her body was cold politicians were already squabbling about her replacement. To me that is so disrespectful. They could have at least allowed the weekend to drift by before beginning their shenanigans.
