The week between

We're in that weird, in-between time that always seems to happen at the end of the year. The break from work has gone by in a blur so far, and I feel somewhat adrift as we approach the New Year. I'm enjoying the time off, but I'll be glad to resume a more normal routine in January with the holidays firmly behind us.

Gregg is currently up at the hospital, having some last scans done and one last consultation with his radiology oncologist. He has his first session of radiation tomorrow. It's going to be a short course of treatment, with 5 sessions in all: tomorrow and Thursday of this week, and Monday-Wednesday-Friday of next week. He's really nervous about tomorrow, since it's the first one and he doesn't really know what to expect. And what a way to spend New Year's Eve!

I'm thinking any celebrating we do for the New Year will have to happen later in January, all things considered. This year has been full of upheaval, and it's not quite over yet, but I'm hopeful for an easier and calmer time in 2025, at least personally. (World events and US politics promise to be wild next year).

So, what are your plans for New Year's Eve? New Year's Day? Even if you're just hibernating at home, I'd love to hear about what you'll be doing!

Also, since this is probably my last post of 2024, I'd like to wish each and every one of you a healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year!

 See you in '25...

xx

While I plan to personally have a good year...at least try too....I agree...politics and the country is about to be turned upside down and inside out...bound to be turbulent. I hope we can all get through it.

I wish you both happy and healthy blessings in the New Year Jennifer.

Good luck to Gregg tomorrow! And wishing you both a good 2025!

I hope everything goes well for Gregg. I'm staying at home with the girls for New Year's, as usual. People are already setting off fireworks so they're upset, which makes me upset. We'll all take some chill pills and I'll continue to read Cher's memoir. It's great. Happy New Year, Jennifer.

Love,
Janie

Hope all goes well for Gregg tomorrow. Nothing planned for New Year's Eve here (tonight).

And ditto - a healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year to you from here in Wales.
As for next year - I'm putting behind me all that was not achieved or disrupted this year - a fresh start, new and wider horizons

Best of luck for Gregg tomorrow. I hope he finds it easier than expected! You can certainly celebrate when it’s all done. - Jenn

We celebrate the New Year at home, just the two of us; I don't have a desire to get out in the crowds at bars and restaurants!
Sending good thoughts for Gregg as he starts his treatment.

Wishing you and Gregg a peaceful, healthy and happy New Year. We had to have our beloved, 16-year-old kitty, Eddie, put to sleep 2 days before Christmas. So....the lights were not as bright this Christmas. I've seen that Rainbow Bridge too many times.
Wishing Gregg good results and hope the school year goes nicely for you.

You guys are having a tough end to 2024 and a hard beginning to 2025. Hoping for good news. Sorry about Eddie, PJ. It's hard to put an animal to sleep, even when you know that it is the right thing to do.

I am where I was last year: in Michigan taking care of my father. It makes for a quiet NYE.

I'm so sorry about Eddie. Losing a pet is one of the hardest things in life. My condolences. And thanks for the kind words.

Best wishes for Greg's treatment. Happy New Year to all of you. I have no plans, outside looking at snow coming down all week.

Jennifer said...

Thank you, Joanne. Watching it snow sounds nice.

Jennifer said...

I've been reading about your visit. My best wishes to your father, and you. Last NYE we were waiting on my dad to die (he held on until the next afternoon).

Jennifer said...

Well, at least it will be over soon, hopefully with no repercussions. Happy New Year, Debby. Thank you for your friendship.

Jennifer said...

Thanks Bob. Happy New Year to you and Carlos!

The doctors keep saying it won't be bad at all, but he's still pretty nervous. Understandably so.

New and wider horizons...I love the sound of that! Thank you for the kind comment. Happy New Year!

New Zealand seems like a faraway, exotic land. I'm so happy I get to "meet" people like you from places I'll likely never see. Happy New Year to you, and thanks for being here. :)

Dear Janie, thank you. There will be fireworks going on all night around here tomorrow night if it's a typical year. People don't know when to stop. George has suddenly lost his hearing in the last couple of months, so missing the scary sounds will be at least one advantage for him. Poppy doesn't seem to mind fireworks too much, at least not yet. Hoping it stays that way!

Happy New Year to you and the girls!

Thanks Debra! Best wishes for the new year to you!

Thank you so much, Maddie. I plan to stock up on popcorn next year and so I can sit back and watch the show. What else can we do right now? Not much. Happy New Year to you!

Radiation, that really sucks, I hope it's as easy as they say it is. I'm staying home. I bought a bottle of wine in case I fell like having a glass or two. I hope your New Year ends up on a bright note.

Best wishes to Greg. It's been amazingly quiet here over Christmas. In a town/city that is usually buzzing, it comes as a shock. I suppose all the students are at home, and others are possibly on holiday. I hope '25 will be better for you both. xx

I hope the treatment goes easily for your husband and 2025 will prove to be less scary than everyone fears politically.

A quiet night in our new home, just the two of us. Wishing you and Gregg that happy, healthy year we’ve heard talk of. Us, too!

All the best in 2025 for you, Gregg and everyone you care about!
A calmer year with less upheaval would certainly be good.
As for Gregg‘s radiation therapy, each session will take only a few minutes, and he won‘t feel anything there and then. Many patients experience tiredness but no other side effects, unlike chemo. I am sure his doctors have told you that, too.
O.K. and I are at my place at the moment, will be spendinf tonight with my Mum, sister and two of Mum‘s friends, having Raclette (a classic meal for New Year‘s Eve in Germany). At midnight, we will be clinking glasses and watch the fireworks from Mum‘s 3rd floor balcony.
Tomorrow, we‘ll be driving down to O.K.‘s, where his Mum is hosting her traditional family meal, now for the first time without her husband/O.K.‘s Dad.

Hopefully, I will be landing on Tristan da Cunha later today. There's going to be a right old shindig in St Joseph's catholic church where I expect to have a dance or two with you. It's amazing how quickly ocean travellers can get over sea sickness once they are on terra firma again. I am sure that Gregg won't mind that you are away having a great time down here.

As I wrote in a reply to a comment the other day, wishing me a happy new year- if by this time next year we haven't blown the planet to bits I'll take that as a success.
Lord, lord, lord.
I really hope that Gregg's five treatments will not leave him too affected as to bad side effects.
As for me and NYE's plans-well, I'll most likely be asleep. Tomorrow I'll cook some black-eyed peas. And that will be that. This sounds depressing but I think it will be very good.

Well, you saw my post -- it will be "Ab Fab" night here! I hope Gregg's treatments go smoothly. Unlike you, I am very happy to be away from my work routines! I think this is a further indication that I may need to think about retirement.

I'm doing piles of laundry as I had many visitors over the holidays so lots of bedding to do! Wishing you and Gregg a Happy 2025 filled with good health, peace and much joy! xo

I may buy a small bottle of wine for tonight...champagne hardly seems appropriate under the circumstances, especially being the only one drinking any. I plan to do Dry January starting tomorrow...maybe I'll start a day early.

Jennifer said...

Thank you, Cro. Wishing you, Lady M., Billy, and the whole family a very Happy New Year!

Jennifer said...

Me too, to both those things. Thank you!

Jennifer said...

Happy New Year, Mitchell! And if you talk to the Kid Brother, please pass along my best wishes to him, as well. :)

Jennifer said...

Hmm, I'll have to google "Raclette". I'm debating about getting myself something as a treat for dinner. We have perfectly good leftovers that I'm sure Gregg will want (provided he feels like eating) but it's NYE and I feel pretty left as far as celebrating goes. Maybe some yummy take out would help. :)
Your NYE plans sound wonderful! Given the time difference, you're probably having dinner by now. Enjoy!

Happy New Year to you and O.K. and your families.

Jennifer said...

If only I was having a great time today! Not that I'm complaining. Much.

Jennifer said...

We might be asleep, too. If not, we'll almost certainly be watching tv and hearing our neighbors shooting off fireworks. I'm planning to cook black-eyed peas and collard greens tomorrow with the leftover Christmas ham and hambone.

Jennifer said...

We might just watch a bunch of Ab Fab tonight too!!!! I can't think of a better show to watch on NYE so thank you for the idea!

Ordinarily I'd be happy to be away from work routines, and I mostly am, but this holiday has been stressful in a lot of ways.

Thanks! Franklin didn't hear well during the last year or so of his life so he wasn't as upset by the fireworks as he had been in the past.

Jennifer said...

Thank you! Our laundry is caught up, too, and I cleaned and mopped the kitchen today to go into the new year with a mostly tidy house.

It's so good to see you around again! Thank you for the good wishes and mine go right back to you!

Just read your comment on Mary's post. So sorry that you had such a bad day. I have been having a sad time since 17th when my beloved dog was PTS..he had 4 cancer masses inside him and stopped eating. However, we start the new year with a new ( rescue) dog next Monday. It will be a challenge as not sure how well trained he is. Hope that today and this New Year will be better for you. It's lashing down with rain here, probably for the rest of the day .
Good luck to Gregg with his treatments.

Jennifer said...

That's so sad about your dog. I'm truly sorry.

Thank you for the comment and good luck with the rescue pup!
