Yesterday I went to Tractor Supply to buy dog food, and I noticed a shipment of trees off to one side of the parking lot. On closer inspection, I saw that they were young Crepe Myrtles, and wouldn't you know it, they had the "Muskogee" variety that we've been talking about planting beside the driveway. We already have five of them down the property line on the other side of the house, and we've been saying for months now that three more would be perfect. Not only did Tractor Supply have the variety we wanted, but they had exactly three! They were all sizeable, healthy, and an absolute bargain at $19.99.
Of course, they came home with me. How could I resist?
Since today was cool and overcast and that's supposed to continue for the next week, we went ahead and planted them this afternoon. Finding the trees was a lucky break, but so is the perfect weather for transplanting them--in August, no less!
We're enjoying the same weather, what a relief. Sleeping with the window open and a quilt is just wonderful. I'm glad you found your trees. And the right weather to plant them.
ReplyDeleteThis cooler weather is like a reward for what we had to endure in July!
DeleteWe got the same break here in Pittsburgh, the last couple days have been dry (no humidity) and a high in the upper 70s. It just doesn't get any better. Your trees look wonderful and your property looks great too! :^)
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you! The lower humidity really makes the biggest difference.
DeleteWe too here have had a lovely break in the weather and refreshing cool temps at night with open windows. Good sleeping!
ReplyDeleteJust think once the myrtles get back and line the drive, how pretty it will look. Ours too is right by the drive.
We have a line of them on the other side of the property, and we love them! Plus, they give good shade in the summer once they become full fledged trees. :)
Delete26 C is perfect. You can do everything you want without being overwhelmed by heat. The bushes look great.
ReplyDeleteThis weather is extra special for us in August! Perfect temps.
DeleteI absolutely love crepe myrtles. They’re blooming here right now and I’ve been planning to tell my mother-in-law crepe myrtle story. Stay tuned. Your plantings are going to be beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know they grew CM in Spain! How nice!
DeleteGood news all around - pleasant summer weather and a lucky find!
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteThey are such pretty trees and how lucky you were to spot them. It was meant to be!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I said!
DeleteThose trees were a steal at $20 each!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe they were so cheap!
DeleteThose Crepe Myrtles will be gorgeous along the driveway!
ReplyDeleteAnd isn't this weather wonderful? I'll even take the hits of rain to be able to have windows open all day in August ... for however long it lasts!
Same, Bob! This weather really is wonderful for August.
DeleteWe're getting the heat breaking rain now. Not as cool as where you are but a relief, nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteAnd hurray for those crepe myrtles! They will bring you pleasure and color for years to come.
They'll match the ones lining the other side of our property, which are just beautiful in the summer!
DeleteThat's a really great price for those Crepe Myrtals! I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe how nice they were for such a low price!
DeleteThey really do look very healthy! What a lucky find!
ReplyDeleteThey look so good now that we've planted them. We got a good hard rain the next day. :)
DeleteWhat a fortunate set of circumstances! Yay!
ReplyDeleteIt felt like a lucky day.
DeleteWe have had a break too. The nights are getting into the 60s, wonderful for sleeping! I went to Tractor Supply. They had their ornamental shrubs for 75% off. I got 2 arborvitaes for $7.50. I saw so many more that I wanted to bring home
ReplyDeleteSelf control is haaaaaaard!
I saw some clearance shrubs there, too! Great prices, and yes, self control is tough!
