I'm happy to report that yesterday's weather forecast ended up being a bust! Aside from some gentle rain showers, nothing happened. Of course, some idiots on social media are dragging the local weather guy instead of being grateful we dodged a bullet. I struggle to understand people sometimes. I guess they'd be happier if we'd had widespread damage and destruction!
Anyway, it ended up being a very productive day for me. I was only able to get the basics done for my job, but in the afternoon when the receptionist took over phone duty, I got my taxes done! Now that's a great feeling, not to mention a relief. We're even getting a modest return this year! That will certainly be welcome and will come in handy.
My driver's license expires next week on my birthday, and I'm planning to take a personal day off work tomorrow to go renew it, and this time I'm getting a "Real ID" for federal identification. I've had to scramble to get all the documents needed for it, including a copy of my birth certificate. (There's no way in hell I was going to ask my estranged mother for it). After completing our taxes, I gathered all the documents I'll need to take with me tomorrow. It seems ridiculous that I need seven (!) forms at minimum to get the Real ID, but at least after tomorrow that will be done. I've been worried about it for months because now you can't board a domestic flight without one. Not that I have any immediate plans to fly, but you never know what might come up, and at least now I'll be ready.
I also made Poppy an appointment for her shots and checkup, which will be tomorrow after I finish at the DMV. I figured I may as well use the personal day off to get as much done as possible. One day soon I'm going to take a personal day or two off JUST FOR ME and do something more fun.
Anyway, thanks for the good wishes on my post yesterday. I'm grateful that the terrible storms didn't materialize and the garden is safe.

We had heavy rain and heavy gales last night. The power went out around 830pm and was still out when I went to bed at 11. Have no idea how long it was out...but it got cold!!!!!!
Glad to hear you escaped the bad weather!
Good news about the weather!
Lucky you! Funny thing, I live about 10 miles from Maddie and all I got was some heavy snow showers around 11 ish. So, either most of the storm when around me, or she's just cursed. 😂🤣😂
Glad you were safe from storms! I'm watching my grandsons today as the local schools close for our primary Election Day today. They will have e-learning which starts in about 30 minutes so they are down in my basement playing with Legos right now. Hope it all goes smoothly!
What a productive day! Excellent. And you are smart to get that driver's license thing taken care of. That's the sort of thing I'd cut off a toe to avoid doing.
That must be such a relief! You were prepared for the worst, and it didn't materialise... phew! How stupid of those people who berate the weather guys. There are certainly enough problems in most people's lives without the addition of storm damage and power outtages.
We got a good rain in Camden and it was breezy afterwards but not tornadoes or really high winds and that was good.
Some people just like to complain, no matter what's going on.
Some people here do the same thing--always criticizing. I'm thankful that weather forecasting has come so far but know that they can't predict anything with 100% accuracy. Weather by its nature is very changeable.
I got the real ID the last time I renewed my license. I had to go to the courthouse for certified copies of my marriage license from fifty years ago. And by the time I got the rest of the documents required together, I misplaced it and had to do it again. I made at least 2 trips, maybe 3, to try to come up with what they wanted at the license bureau and at my last visit they accepted what I had and an affidavit from my husband that I lived at my house (where I have lived since 1978). I am hopeful that I don't have to go through all this again when I renew it.
And my state doesn't put something on the license that means you are a citizen so if the SAVE act passes, my "real ID" license is not acceptable as proof of citizenship to vote. Don't tell me that this isn't discrimination against women since my husband did not have to provide any of these documents.
It is ABSOLUTELY discrimination against women and it infuriates me. The SAVE act is the main thing that got me thinking about a Real ID, but I don't think I could use it to vote either. I can't stand thinking about it.
The worst is when they tell you it's going to be 'breezy', and in the morning you wake to find all the biggest trees down.
I love chatty posts like this one x
I'm glad you escaped worse weather! And it must be a huge relief to get the taxes done. I wonder if it would be easier to just get a passport rather than a "Real ID" driver's license? Probably about the same, actually.
Glad you escaped!
Under The Orange Fuhrer, securing that "Real I.D." may prove vital insurance for when you get to vote in November. He and his cronies seem to be already planning was of undermining the Democrat vote by introducing new I.D. rules but I guess you already knew that.
