You guys...YOU GUYS! I can't believe I'm saying this, but South Carolina turned BLUE yesterday! South Carolina, y'all. It's the most shocked I've been in ages, honestly.
I didn't even dare dream that Annie Andrews would win the Senate seat that's been held by Republicans since 1954. The utterly foul Strom Thurmond held the seat for an astounding 47 years until his death in 2003 and then Lindsey Graham (gag) from then until this past July. This is a very, very big deal. And although I'm sad that Jermaine Johnson didn't (quite) win, the Senate seat is a major, major triumph and it proves that our state is changing. Florida, keep the faith and keep pushing. Your day is coming. If it can happen here (and in Georgia, and Texas, and OMG MAYBE EVEN MISSISSIPPI) it can happen anywhere.
Half the staff at my school practically danced into work this morning. Everyone had knowing grins and talked about what a "beautiful morning" we were having. It did my soul good! The joy and relief were palpable. One funny thing happened. Right after I got to work, this little Black boy came up to me and said, "Mrs. Barlow...who did you vote for? My grandma voted for Dr. Annie Andrews and she's going to lower costs!" He couldn't have been over 10 years old.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I leaned in and whispered, "Me too" to answer his question).
