Bad luck and trouble

I've said it before, December always means bad luck for me and my family.

The latest: Gregg's sister was in a terrible car accident today. She's going to live, but she's very badly hurt. She has a shattered elbow, broken ribs, a fractured sternum, and an upper femur break in one of her legs so bad that they had to do surgery immediately to insert a metal rod. Apparently her car flipped over and crashed into a tree, and they had to cut her out of the twisted wrecked metal.

Naturally we're very concerned and will probably be going to up to see her in the next day or two. She lives up in Raleigh so their mom is close by, at least. I'm sure she'll be spending Christmas in the hospital and we need to be there to offer her, her kids, and my mother-in-law whatever support they need.

What a terrible day.

Terrible indeed, poor woman! Was it icy roads that caused the accident? No matter why/how it happened, I hope she'll be on the mend soon, and I'm glad she is still alive and can count on the support of her family!

We're not sure what happened. We only know that no other cars were involved, so ice is a possibility.

Gregg told his mom that we could leave immediately and be there in 2 hours, but she advised us to wait a day or two.

My sister-in-law has her mom, stepdad, and 22 year old son there. Her 20 year old daughter is there too, home from college for the holidays. So she has plenty of family surrounding her at the moment. She's pretty knocked out on morphine right now from what I understand.

Glad she is alive and fixable. It will be a long recovery, though. Best wishes to all.

That's dreadful Jennifer. Thank God she's alive. No matter how safe and steady we are as car drivers this could happen to any of us. It's a nightmare that we always hope won't come true.
