These tiny little weed flowers are blooming underneath one of the walnut trees in our backyard.

A weed is just a flower/plant growing where you don't want it.
That is one of the most beautiful "weeds" I have ever seen.
It looks like a violet.

cheers, parsnip

We call these pretty flowers "occhi della Madonna" - Mother Mary's blue eyes. Greetings Maria x

I agree with Parsnip about what defines a weed and this little beauty would be welcome in my garden :-)

That's a beautiful name! I love it!

A grandma used to own this house and there were a lot of pink and purple flowers planted on purpose. So it's possible that the patch of these that come back every year could have been put there by her. But I've seen these growing in wild places this time of year, too. Either way, I think they're lovely. :)

There's a whole patch of them growing in the back yard, but the flowers are so tiny that the only good way to get a photo is to pick one and get right up close. I love all flowers, especially the ones that are wild and free! (And what's more wild and free than a weed?)

Just a thought. Are they walnut seedlings?

Jennifer said...

No. Walnut seedlings don't have flowers.

I was kidding.

I thought you probably were, but I didn't want to hurt your feelings just in case!

Aren't they sweet?

I like this photo and your idea to spotlight a tiny volunteer flower. I am not calling it a weed, it is too pretty.
