Election Day Blues

I don't think I've ever been this terrified of the outcome of a presidential campaign. Or more disgusted with at least half of the people I know.

This election has brought out the very worst in so many people. I've never seen so much racism, misogyny, and intolerance openly on display. It's so....ugly.  People I thought were good, decent people are clearly not good nor decent. I'm not sure how to go forward with people (some in my own family!) who care so little for others, for the welfare of their fellow human beings. Many of the "Christians" I know are some of the worst of the lot. How am I supposed to show respect for people that clearly have none for me or for my values? The outcome of this race will be decided tomorrow, but I'll never forget some of the things I've seen and heard. It makes me despair of ever feeling at home in this country again.

Now that I've got that off my chest, I guess I'll go shower and head to work. I wish I could just call in "depressed" and take the day off, but maybe distraction will be better. I don't even know anymore.

  1. My next-door neighbour accused me of all sorts of things when her side lost the election in
Britain. This was when they lost. She never forgave me for having a different opinion. Now, she doesn't speak to me. How terrible that she use politics to decide our future that way. I've known her for 20 years, but I'll never forgive her for this.

    1. Different opinions are one thing, I'm used to that as a liberal in a very "red" state. But to give you one example of what I'm talking about, Donald Trump mocked a disabled man (it's on camera so he can't deny it) and some of my so-called "Christian" friends defend him to the death as their choice for president. If anything is any uglier than that, I don't know what it is. I can have respect for different opinions, but when someone defends a cretin who makes fun of the disabled (one terrible thing of many that he's said/done) that goes beyond political differences. I can't have respect for anyone who supports Trump.

    2. I would like to add.....if anyone can't support Hillary, I can respect that as long as they're not a Trump supporter instead.

    3. Now we know the sad end to this election. I just can't believe it, Jennifer. And Ohio went Trump. How disgraceful. And I agree that a difference of opinion is one thing, supporting this creature is something else entirely. Not sure if you've ever read a blog called "VA Dog Rescue" (written by Brent Jacques). Go read his November 7 post entitled "Politics and Friendship." Spot on, I think. You have to make choices about who you associate with. And sometimes you get to choose to say no.

    4. Elle, thank you for this thoughtful comment. I will go read that blog later today. I agree, you have to make choices at some point.

  2. One thing is for sure, half the population is going to be very upset; which half remains to be seen!

  3. No matter what the outcome is, America's self-inflicted wounds will remain raw long after this bitter election. But with Mrs Clinton in The White House at least the rest of the world will be able to breathe an enormous sigh of relief.

  4. I am just so upset what a mess. Politicians have destroyed this country. It is out of my hands as my vote never counts. The East Coast and California decides the election and my vote is tossed in the trash with the garbage.

  5. Living in the East your vote will count Good Luck !

  6. I feel very sorry for the whole of the USA right now, but I feel sorrier for what I hope will be over 52% of them.

  7. I'm sad and sickened over the ugliness I've seen. Hang in there. Sarah Palin was very popular for a while and then most people got sick of her stupidity or forgot about her. The same thing could happen with Trump. He's done one good thing: Latinos are voting in higher numbers than ever before.

    Love,
    Janie

  8. Here in Germany, the elections are followed very closely, as the result has great impact on Europe as a whole and Germany in particular.
Like you, I can't believe people - especially those who call themselves Christians - took Trump seriously enough to support him throughout the campaign and now voted for his party.
How can anyone in their right mind want such ugliness to be normal?
