Easter trees, strawberry fields

A neighbor has decorated her blooming dogwood tree with Easter egg ornaments. I stopped in the middle of a bike ride this morning to take a picture to share here:

It's weird, but kind of cute.

After lunch I paid a visit to one of our local strawberry farms. The berries are ripe a little early this year. Several people were out in the warm sunshine letting little kids pick strawberries. I was in a hurry so I decided not to pick my own. Maybe next time.

I bought a big basket of beautiful berries. They're so sweet and delicious. Just look at them:

I've been eating strawberries all evening!

  1. It is fun to pick your own berries and you certainly pay a lot less. Like almost everything now though, strawberries are bred here for appearance, size and tough outers for transport and packing. Direct from a small berry farm might be a very good option.

  2. The Easter Tree seems to borrow a lot from Christmas; even the Easter Chick looks rather like a Snowman! No Strawberries here yet, my plants have flowers but it'll be a while yet. Yours are making my mouth water.

    1. The chick DOES look like a snowman! And the blossoms on the tree look like snow! :)

  3. Locally grown strawberries are definitely the best, we have strawberry farms in our county too. I like the whimsy of the eggs on the pretty tree.

  5. Like Cro Magnon says, it'll be a while yet before we have strawberries here in the open fields. (I know he lives in France, and their climate is very similar to ours, unless you count the southernmost parts along the Mediterranean.)
I'll probably have my first outdoors-grown strawberries here in about 5 weeks or so.

  8. Oh, how beautiful they are. You are very fortunate to have them so early. Our strawberry season is not until June.

    1. The flip side of having strawberries so early is that by June, it will be super hot here and strawberries will be done.

  9. Strawberries ready now! That's amazing.
Is that your neighbour standing under the tree? Would it be ungentlemanly to suggest that she has an odd body shape? Poor woman.

    1. The strawberries were ready a couple of weeks early this year. My favorite fruits were ruined by a late freeze though--peaches are done for this year in South Carolina and Georgia. Sigh.
