I'm home from a quick visit with grandma last night. We spent some time poring through old family photos and I brought a few home. Here's one I especially wanted to show you all.
My grandfather, Joseph S. Czmiel, in WWII. He was in the US Air Corps and served in the 466th Bombardment group in Europe. Wasn't he a dapper looking man?!

What a great photo. My father was in the infantry (Patton's Army). I also brought home some wonderful vintage shots after my last trip. So glad you're collecting these.
Dapper indeed. My dad was in the Army Air Corps, too.
Love,
Janie
Yes ! So handsome and very dapper.
cheers, parsnip
He looks a very fine young man in that photo. We get many US visitors here because many of the squadrons flew in WWII from bases in Norfolk and they visit the old airfields although they are now mostly reclaimed for farmland. There is a area in my local church dedicated to the US bomber squadrons that flew from here and also in the Library in Norwich there is US World War II room.
Rachel, grandma said he was stationed in England during the war!
Excellent! I love old photos, and there's something especially cool about scanning them and making them available online.
How cool! Did he serve in Europe or the Pacific?
I have a big folder full of family photos to sort through. I love seeing all the old fashions, hair styles, furniture, etc. Just wait until I share a couple of my grandparents' wedding photos from 1948...my grandmother's dress was stunning and they made such a beautiful couple. :)
Thank you!
I have some very cool old photos to share here on the blog over the weekend. Sunday (Father's Day) would have been my grandparents' wedding anniversary, and some of their 40's era wedding photos are just wonderful. I think the blog will enjoy them. :)
I salute Joe Czmiel. It's a great photo to cherish. Thanks for sharing Jennifer.
I like old photos, i hope you will share more.
That is a precious photo; my dad was in the Army Air Corp too.
So handsome and very dapper.
